Message from the Author:
My writings
examine Christianity in the spirit of honest inquiry. If you are a Christian
who is easily offended, or if you are not comfortable with questioning your religion, then I suggest you move on and not
read what I have wrote. Moreover, as a former Christian, I can testify that reading similar
works by other freethinkers caused me to go through much emotional pain. In
fact, during my journey from a Christian to an atheist I have been through what
psychology calls the five
stages of grief (i.e., denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance).
However, after looking back on it, I have concluded that the journey was well
worth any discomfort that I might have experienced. Finally, please read the FAQ
and Respect and
Tolerance before you judge my intentions.
Christian Salvation?
and Why I’m Agnostic (2001) were written over a period
of months starting in 2001. During that time I was still wrestling with
the ramifications of my nonbelief, thus the tone of these articles may
reflect some of my personal frustrations. My reasons for writing both
articles were as follows: 1) a response to well-meaning Christians who
try to reconvert me, 2) a way to deal with my own church-indoctrinated
fear of hell (and possibly help others deal with their own fear), and
3) to get both Christians and non-Christians to examine Christianity.
Both articles have the ancillary intent of casting doubt on the “revealed”
truth of Christianity, but this was not my main intent. Neither article
should be seen as a formal proof or technical essay for the nonexistence
of God.
Finally, I would also like to sincerely thank the Secular Web
for providing me with a virtual resource that helped me to resolve some
of these issues.
