Cornelius Hansor was born in Kent Co., DE in December 1839. He was the son of Ann and Cornelius Hansor . He died in August 1899. He and a number of other "Hansleys" are buried at the John Wesley AME Church in Frederica DE which calls Cornelius the "son of Annie and Cornelius Hansley". It is possible these others, listed in the church records, were his children:
In the tapes that C. A. Weslager made with members of the mixed blood community in the 1930's and 1940's, he interviewed Neeley Ann Hansor (married to John Johnson). She said she was born before 1870 and that her parents were of mixed Indian/white ancestry and lived in Frederica, DE (where the John Wesley Church is located). She said they wore their hair in long braids and observed Indian ways until they died. Also mentioned in these tapes were twins: JIM HANSLEY (married to a Nora Harmon) and GEORGE HANLSEY which sounds alot like the 2 listed above as possibly children of Cornelius. Also mentioned in these tapes was a sister ELVA HANSLEY who married a Mosley. If, in fact, these are the children of Cornelius, then according to the tapes, his wife was a DRAINE from Indian River Hundred. Also buried at John Wesley Church is a SELLEYSTEAN HANSLEY (1851-1882). |
