NEW! "PLAIN FOLK'S FIGHT - THE CIVIL WAR & RECONSTRUCTION IN PINEY WOODS GEORGIA" by Mark V. Wetherington. You will like this one, too. So much detail about individuals and Civil War units and how "plain folk" fit into the arena of the pre and post-war South . A must have, for sure. Truly a great piece of research into lives of people like Lucius Williams, Woodson Willcox, etc. Go to Amazon.com for details.
NEW! FITZGERALD in adjoining Ben Hill County. Paul Dunn, a new friend, has just written "A Stroll Through Fitzgerald In The Forties." You will enjoy this little book. Go to Amazon and find it there. Good price, too! Fitzgerald, The Colony City, is an interesting place. It even has wild chickens roaming all over town. And they are beautiful birds!
SOMETHING NEW -- SEE "OLD JACKSONVILLE, GA. KEEPSAKES & SUCH" LINK AT BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE - "PLATES OF HISTORY" & PICTURE TILES -- and NOW AVAILABLE -- PICTURE POSTCARDS of Old Jacksonville, Ga.
*****NOTE >>>> We have changed things a little bit! Go to the bottom of this page and click on Old Jacksonville, Ga History for a Link to all other Old Jacksonville Links! From there you can go to Articles, Calendar, Weather, Photographs, etc.!! Enjoy!
The City of Jacksonville and citizens interested in its rich history are making efforts to establish a History Center or Pavilion in the town so that travelers on US Highway 441 may stop and read plaques concerning these interesting events and the people who had a part in making these rich events of history. A modified plan now allows visitors to read these signs all over town.
More to come. If you know of items of interest about Old Jacksonville please let me know.
