OBITUARY: MINNIE PEARL DEAROLPH Pearl
Minnie Pearl, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John
Dearolph, was born in Monroe, PA., Sept. 1, 1881, and died in New
Castle, PA., after a short illness, Jan. 15, 1909, aged 27 years, 4 months and
14 days. Minnie had a very lovable disposition, scattering
sunshine wherever she went into the lives of those whom she met during her short
earthly sojourn. Being of such an affectionate nature, she won the esteem of a
large circle of friends, as was fully demonstrated the day of the funeral, when
so many came to pay their last tribute of respect to the one they so dearly
loved. Truly she will be missed, not only by her immediate loved ones but by
many, many others. She is survived by her parents, seven sisters and three
brothers. For a number of years she was a faithful and efficient clerk in the
store of her brother-in-law, Mr. Kahle, at Monroe. For about
two years she was the book-keeper in a large wholesale store in New Castle,
where again she proved herself to be the same efficient and competent help. She
was in her office on Monday and died on Friday. Minnie became a
confirmed member of the St. Mark's Reformed Church, Monroe, Pa., in the spring
of 1899 of which Church she was a faithful and consistent member to the time of
her death. When at home she was always found in her Sunday School class and was
a regular attendant upon the Lord's Day services in God's Holy Sanctuary. She
now rests from her labors and her works do follow her. First there is the lesson
of warning for both old and young alike. Second, there is the lesson of a good
example to be lived before others. The funeral services were conducted by her
pastor, Rev. H. S. Nicholson from the St. Mark's Reformed
Church, Monroe, Pa., Monday, Jan. 18 at 10 a.m. The body was laid to rest in the
beautiful cemetery by the church to await the glorious, resurrection of the
just." Tis a blessing to live, but a greater to die, And the best of the
world is the path to the sky. The relatives and friends have the deepest sympathy
of the people in their time of sorrow and bereavement.
A TRIBUTE TO A FRIEND:
Friends, in sadness we have met here
This place of praise and prayer
Bringing a last loving tribute,
Finding hope for our despair.
Our church home was been invaded
by the dark angel called Death;
He has entered a family circle
And chilled its heart with his breath.
A right and fair one was taken,
The "Pearl" of the home was she.
She shines in the radiance of Heaven -
Her crown, "Immortality."
Out of the gloom, and earth's trails,
Into the light and the songs!
Out of the world's vain deceptions,
To truth, which with God belongs!
Ah, what joy to think of Heaven,
Our eternal home so dear -
There to meet and live with Jesus,
Ever see His Presence near!
Oh, the longings and the heart-aches,
And the partings we have here!
Oh, the greetings and the rapture
That await us over there!
Yes, dear Minnie, who has left us,
Is at rest at "Home, Sweet Home."
There 'tis bliss to be with Jesus,
Who will some day bid us, "Come!."
May we heed His precious teachings,
May we trustfully obey:
Then with Him and His dear children
We shall reign in endless day.
There the beauty of the glory
Ne'er was seen by mortal eye.
There will home-sick soul be harbored,
Safety anchored by and by.

MARRIAGE: GOLDEN WEDDING ANNIVERSARY (abt. 25 Aug 1929)
On Sunday, August 25, the children and grandchildren of Mr. and Mrs. W
.L. Dolby of Helen Furnace surprised the old folks with a celebration
honor of their golden wedding anniversary. This family is a remarkable one as
contrasted with the modern family. Mr. & Mrs. Dolby are the proud
parents of 13 children all of whom are living. There are also 41 grandchildren
and eight great-grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Dolby are both in good health
and do all their own work on the farm not withstanding the fact that they are
aged 71 and 65 respectively. The home coming was staged in the form of the
annual reunion, the old folds being completely surprised and both remained
unaware of the celebration of their golden wedding anniversary until a purse of
gold was presented to them at the dinner table. The day was spent in a general
reunion of children and parents followed by games and races for the
grandchildren in the late afternoon. Both dinner and supper were served to 50
people.
It is hoped this happy couple will be attendant at many more family reunions and
the family circle remain unbroken for many years.
