OBITUARY: MRS. J. S. EHRHART (The Butler Citizen, 16
April 1903)
EHRHART- At her home in Karns City, April 12, 1903, Mrs. J. S. Ehrhart,
aged 71, years.
OBITUARY: SAMUEL A. EISENMAN (December 1932)
One of the best know and highly esteemed citizens of Clarion, Mr.
Samuel Alphonso Eisenman, passed away at the residence of his son, Banks
Eisenman Friday, December 30, 1932, after a brief illness from cerebral
hemorrhage, aged 74 years, 4 months and 27 days. Mr. Eisenman
was the son of Jacob and Lydia (Hazlett) Eisenman,
and was born August 3, 1858, near Shippenville, Clarion county, Pa. He was
united in marriage with Luella Johnston, who preceded him in
death about eight years ago. He is survived by the following children: Mrs.
Maude Kribbs, Sargeant : S. B. Eisenman,of Clarion; Mrs.
Edith Clayton, Rochester, N.Y.; Mrs. Margie Fultz,
Summerville, and Edwin Eisenman, Clarion. About twenty
years ago he moved to Clarion and has since been a well known resident and
citizen here. He was a member of the Free Methodist Church. His
funeral was held at the residence of his son January 2nd, at 2:30 p.m., the
services being conducted by Rev. R. F. Walter, of Clarion Free
Methodist Church. Interment was made in Clarion Cemetery.

OBITUARY: SAMUEL B. EISENMAN
Clarion, Dec. 12- Samuel Banks Eisenman, 46,died at his
home on Chestnut St., Clarion, at 1:30 p.m. Sunday following a three-months
illness. He was born at Helen Furnace, Clarion county, on April 26, 1897,
the son of the late Samuel and Luella Johnston Eisenman.
For the past 21 1/2 years he had been employed as a fireman at the Clarion State
Teachers' college. Surviving are his wife, the former Mae
Ferringer; three sisters, Mrs. Maude Cribbs of
Sargent, Mrs. Edith Clayton of Rochester, N.Y., and Mrs.
Marjorie Fultz of Summerville; and a brother, Edward
Eisenman, of Strattanville. Funeral arrangements will be
announced.

George Elish, 85, of RD 3 Rimersburg died,
Thursday, Nov. 7, at his home. Mr. Elish was born in Coratian,
Australia. He has no know survivors. He was a member of St.
Richard's Catholic Church in Rimersburg. A funeral mass was held at 9 a.m.
Saturday, Nov. 9, at St. Richard's Church. Father William Maloney
officiated and burial was in St. Eusebius Cemetery in East Brady. The

OBITUARY: ELEANOR V. ELLIOTT (picture of

Eeanor V. Elliott, 78, of Curllsville, died early
Sunday morning, June 22, 1997, at her home following a sudden illness. Born Oct. 18, 1918, in Licking Township, Clarion
County, she was a daughter of Ralph C.
and Florence Males Elliott. She was a 1936 graduate of Sligo High School
and also was a graduate of Duff's Business College
in Warren, Pa. Miss Elliott retired
in 1981 from the secretarial department of Westinghouse in Sharon after 35 years
of service. she moved to Curllsville from the Sharon area following her retirement.
Miss Elliott was member
of Grace Community Church in Curllsville and the
women's Guild of the church. Surviving are two breathers,
Albert H. Elliott of Clarion and John
W. Elliott of Curllsville; four sisters, Mrs.
Geraldine E. Silves of West Middlesex, Mrs.
Eileen Varner of Butler, Mrs. Russell (Carolyn) Heeter of
Sligo and Mrs. Ralph (Marjorie) Smith of Mayport; and many nieces and
nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
The family will receive friends form 2 to 4 and 7
to 9 p.m. today in the Varner Funeral Home in Sligo. Funeral services
will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with Dan George,
lay pastor of Grace Community Church in Curllsville, officiating.
Interment will be in Mount Zion Cemetery near
Callensburg. The family suggests that memorials be made to the Grace Community
Church, Curllsville, Pa. 16221, or to the American Cancer Society.

OBITUARY: MRS. FLORENCE B. ELLIOTT
Mrs. Florence Belle Elliott, 87, of RD 1 Sligo died Saturday morning, Dec.
18, at her home. Born May 6, 1889, in Porter Township, she was a daughter of the
late Henry and Martha Magee Males. She was married May 19,
1909 to Ralph C. Elliott, who survives. Following their marriage
the Elliotts moved to Licking Township where they continued to make their
home. Mrs. Elliott was a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Gerald
(Geraldine) Silves of West Middlesex, Miss Eleanor Elliott of
Sharon, Mrs. Clarence (Eileen) Varner of New Orleans, La., Mrs.
Russell (Carolyn) Heeter of Sligo and Mrs. Ralph (Marjorie) Smith of
RD Mayport; two sons, Albert of RD 1 Sligo and John of
Curllsville, 17 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Eight brothers
and two sisters preceded her in death Services were at 1 p.m. Tuesday
(today) in Mt. Zion Lutheran Church with the Rev. George Kaushaar officiating.
Burial was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery. The Cleo A. Hawk Funeral Home
in Sligo was in charge of arrangements.

OBITUARY: MRS. FLORENCE BELLE ELLIOTT
SLIGO- Florence Belle Elliott, 87, of Sligo RD 1, died at 8:45 a.m.
Saturday at her home. She was born May 6, 1889, in Porter Township, the daughter
of Henry and Martha Magee Males. She married Ralph C. Elliott on
May 19, 1909. He survives. Following their marriage they moved in
Licking Township, where they continued to make their home. Mrs. Elliott
was a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church. In addition to her husband , she
is survived by: seven children, Mrs. Gerald (Geraldine) Silves of West
Middlesex, Albert Elliott of Sligo RD 1, Miss Eleanor Elliott of
Sharon, John Elliott, Sr., of Curllsville, Mrs. Rusell (Carolyn)
Heeter of Sligo, Mrs. Clarence (Ilene) Varner of New Orleans,
La., and Mrs. Ralph (Marjorie) Smith of Mayport RD; 17 grandchildren; and 21
great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by eight brothers and two
sisters. Friends were received at the family home and the body was removed
at 1 p.m. Tuesday to the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church were services were held at 2
p.m. with Rev. George Kraushaar, pastor of the church, officiating.
Arrangements were in charge of the Hawk Funeral Home here. Burial
was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Mrs. Geraldine Dee Elliott, 37, of Sandy Hollow, Rimersburag RD 1, wife of John
Elliott died Monday afternoon, March 23, in the Butler Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Elliott was born in East Barady February 25, 1922 a daughter
of the late Arthur and Virginia Burdett McCanna. She married
Mr. Elliott January 25, 1941. She was a member....(the rest cut off)

Knox - Ralph C. Elliott, 92, of Sligo RD 1, died at
noon Monday in Franklin Hospital after a short illness. Born December 4,
1884 in Licking Township, Clarion County, he was a son of Albert and
Elizabeth Over Elliott. He married the former Florence Males
May 19, 1909. She died December 18, 1976. A school teacher during
his early years, Mr. Elliott spent his entire working career as a farmer.
He was affiliated with the Church of God at Callensburg. Survivors include five
daughters, Mrs. Gerald (Geralding) Silves of West Middlesex, Miss
Eleanor Elliott of Sharon, Mrs. Bud (Eileen) Varner of Charlotte,
Mich., Mrs. Russell (Carolyn) Heeter of Sligo and Mrs. Ralph
(Marjorie) Smith of Mayport; two sons, Albert H. of Sligo RD 1 and John
W. Elliott of Curlsville,; 22 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; five
sisters, Mrs. Paul (Grace) Hilliard of Emlenton RD 2, Mrs. Eva Rupert of
Knox, Mrs. Dorothy Lewis of Clarion RD 2, Mrs. Joe (Martha)
Cowhard of Louisville, KY. and Mrs. Roy (Ethel) Pittman of
Vandergriff; a brother, Lee Elliott of Phoenix, Ariz; several nieces and
nephews. Two brother, Aaron and Edward Elliott and two sisters; Mary
and Florence, preceded him in death. Friends may call after 7 p.m.
today and from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Ralph Elliott residence.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete. A complete obituary will be published
Wednesday in The Derrick. The William N. Rupert Funeral Home in
Knox is in charge of arrangements.

KNOX- Ralph C. Elliott, 92, of Sligo RD 1, died at noon July 25 in
Franklin Hospital after a short illness. Born December 4, 1884 in Licking

He married the former Florence Males on May 19, 1976. A school
teacher during his early years, Mr. Elliott spent his entire working

the Mt. Zion Church Cemetery. The William N. Rupert Funeral Home in
Knox is handling the funeral arrangements. Friends will be received from 2
to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the Elliot residence.

OBITUARY: MRS. MYRTLE S. EMINGER
Mrs. Myrtle Steiner Eminger of Mars, widow of J.
H. Eminger died Wednesday evening at her home. She was born at
Scotch Hill the daughter of the late Daniel and Jane Steiner.
The deceased spent the majority of her life in the Scotch Hill district.
She is survived by two sons, Donald W. of Alhambra, Calif., and
Richard of Evans City; three brothers and two sisters.
The deceased was a member of the Methodist church, Order of Eastern Star
chapter, 271, and Woman's Benefit association chapter, 166, of Mars.
NEWS, OBITUARY: KILLED BY FALL (August 1935)
Well Known Knox Township Man Fell From Roof, He was painting
Lewis Engle, a prominent, well known and highly esteemed
citizen of Farmington township, who resided near Lucinda, met with an accident
Friday, August 23, 1935, in which he lost his life. Mr. Engle
was painting the roof of the house occupied by Mr. ______ Gannon
in Snydersville _______the property of E. P. Carroll ___ Engle
fell from the roof of the house to the roof of the porch a distance of ten or
twelve feet and then fell to the ground, the entire distance being about twenty
feet. Mr. Carroll, the owner was standing
not far from where Mr. Engle struck the ground and immediately
ministered to him. Dr. H. H. Kahle of
Leeper, was immediately called and upon examination pronounced Mr. Engle
dead. His death was believed to be instantaneous. It was supposed by
some persons that Mr. Engle had sustained a heat attack which
caused the fall, but that was not definitely decided. Mr. Engle
was aged 60 years. He was a life long resident of that vicinity. By
occupation he was a carpenter and builder, and had followed his occupation for
many years. He is survived by his wife and the following children: Lawrence
and Andrew of Williamsport; Mrs. Charles Banner,
Shippenville; Mrs. Jacob Gatesman and Mrs. Henry Lander,
Lucinda. Misses Carolyn and Florence, Pittsburgh; Mrs.
Edward Kishman, Philadelphia; Sister Edith Waukeegan,
Illinois, and Helena and Aloysius at home.
OBITUARY: FRANK W. ETZEL JR.
Frank W. Etzel Jr. 67, of Cranberry RD 1, a veteran of the oil and gas
industry, died at 6:45 am Saturday in Franklin Regional Medical Center after
several months of illness. Born October 17, 1915, in Fern, he was a son of
Frank W. and Mary Jane Kropp Etzel Sr. He moved to Cranberry RD 1
in 1974, having lived for many years in Rockland where he owned and operated Etzel
Gas Co. for the past 21 years, providing natural gas service to residents of
that area. In his 50 years in the oil and gas business, Mr. Etzel
had operated, with one of his brothers, Etzel Brothers, a company which
drilled, serviced and plugged wells, for 40 years. An active member of
Good Hope Lutheran Church, he was a member of the church council, a Sunday
School teacher, a lector, and president of the family night program. He
was past president of the church bowling team. A founding member of Rock
land Volunteer Fire Department, he also belonged to Edenburg Lodge 550 F &
AM, the Lodge of Perfection and Coudersport Consistory. Mr. Etzel
had worked with Venango county Area Vocational-Technical School in developing
its new program to prepare students for jobs in the oil and gas fields. He
maried the former Evelyn Mae Hoover on April 27, 1938, and she survives.
Also surviving are four sons, Kenneth G. of McKean, Dean C. of Erie, Kenneth
N. of Seneca and Loraine A. (Barney) Etzel of Alamo, Calif.; a
daughter, Mrs. John (LaDonna J.) Hovis of New Cumberland, W.VA.
Other survivors are: three brothers, Conrad A. of Morton, Leland of
Shipenville and Merle Etzel of East Aurora, N.Y.: six sisters, Mrs.
Delbert (Bessie) Salser of Okeechobee, Fla., Mrs. Bernice Schimp
of Erie, Mrs. Helen Schimp of Clarion, Mrs. Dorothy Courson of
Meadville, Mrs. Robert (Ruth) Shreffler of Cranberry RD 1 and Mrs.
Leonard (Mary Jane) Sharrar of Albuquerque, N. Mex.; and 15 grandchildren.
A brother, Berlie Etzel, preceded him in death. Friends may call
form 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Morrison Funeral Home.
Members of Edenburg Lodge 550 F & AM will hold a memorial service for Mr.
Etzel at 7 :30 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. Funeral services 2ill be at
11 a.m. Tuesday in Good Hope Lutheran Church, with Rev. Kenneth Hauge,
pastor, and retired pastor Rev. LeRoy Sarver officiating. Interment
will be in Emmanuel Cemetery at Shippenville. Family members suggest memorial
contributions may be made to Good Hope Lutheran Church or to the American Cancer
Society.

OBITUARY: SON CONDUCTS SERVICE FOR MRS. EUSTACE,
FRENCHTOWN PRIEST IS CELEBRANT HERE; MANY PERSONS ATTEND THE MASS.
A solemn high mass of requiem for the happy repose of the soul of the late Mrs.
Johanna Eustace was celebrated by her son, Rev. Thomas F. Eustace of
Frenchtown, in St. Josephs church on Friday morning. The officers of the
mass were as following: Celebrant- Rev. T. F. Eustace.
Dearen- Rev. J. J. Cannon, Master of ceremonies- Very Rev. Mons. R. J.
Gilfoyle, Erie. Assistant master of ceremonies- Rev. P. H. McNally,
McKean. Candle bearers- Rev. R. J. McLaughlin, Corry and Rev. J.
C. O'Donald, Franklin. The sermon was delivered by Very Rev. Mons.
R. J. Gilfoyle, secretary to Rt. Rev. John M. Gannon, bishop of
Erie. Monsignor Gilfoyle paid a high tribute to the Christian
character of the deceased and her devotion to her family. He said that her's was
truly a Christian life with the crowing achievement the giving of a son to the
church of God. He said that her standing in the parish and community was
amply attested by the large congregation present to pay their last respect to
her memory. The following priests were in the sanctuary: Rev.
Louis Kelly, Sharon; Rev. John Craig, Stoneboro; Rev. Dennis O'Mahony;
Mercer; Rev. James B. Moriarity, Meadville; Rev. E. M. Driscoll,
St. Stephens; Rev. B. A. McAvenue,. Help on Christians: Rev.
John Nolah and Rev. M. F. Lyons, St. Stephena and Rev. Peter
Dembenski, Church of the Assumption, Oil City. There was an unusually large
congregation present at the mass and since the death of Mrs. Eustace,
which occurred at the family home on Warren St., on Wednesday evening, many
called at the late home to offer their condolences to the bereaved family.
As the funeral entered the church, Charles Clifford sung "On
This Day, Oh Beautiful Mother" at the offertory, Miss Mary Dwyer
sung, "O Meritus Passionus". After the mass, Miss Loretta
Wagner sung "Flys as a Bird" and as the funeral left the
church, John Clifford sung "Calvary". Mrs. A M. Geary
presided at the organ and before the blessing of the corpse played the
"DeProfundis". Interment was made in the family plot in the new
St. Josephs cemetery with the following acting as pass bearers: Messrs.
J. J. Saltzman, William Stewart, Thomas Keating, William Reid, and James Haynes of
this city and Daniel Buckley of Sharon. Friends and relatives present at
the funeral from out of the city were R. E. Eustace of Warren, Ohio, a
son of the deceased; Mrs. John Carney and daughters Cecelia and Mary,
Daniel and William Buckley and Robert Garlty, of Sharon; Mrs.
Jacob Tayler and daughter, Ruth and Mrs. Nix and
daughter Catherine of Meadville.

OBITUARY: EWING,
ELSIE MAE (
Jeffersonian Democrat, September 26, 1957)
Funeral services were held in the Work Funeral Home in Brookville yesterday
afternoon for Mrs. Elsie Mae Ewing, who died Monday morning in Brookville
Hospital at 76 years of age, following a lingering illness. Born May 20, 1880,
at Fisher, a daughter of George and Emma (Carley) Jackson,
Mrs. Ewing resided at Fisher at the time of her death. She was
married to Reed E. Ewing and made her home in Levittstown for a number of
years. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Cornwall Heights and the
Order of Eastern Star. She is
survived by three sons, Chester Daughterty of Fisher, Cecil Daughtery,
of Strattanville, both by a former marriage; and Charles Ewing of
Irvington, N.J., and seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Rev.
Samuel Phoebus, pastor of the Forest Presbyterian Parish, officiated at
services here. Interment was in Scotch Hill Cemetery near Fisher.

OBITUARY, JACOB
EXLEY, CLARION REPUBLICAN – May 1, 1902 –

Jacob Exley, lived one–half mile southwest of Kossuth
for 35 years and was one of Ashland Township’s best known and respected
farmers. After several weeks of failing health he died on April 23, 1902 at the
age 73 years, 7 months and 18 days. At the age of 5 years he came from Germany
to America and settled in Beaver Township, where he grew to manhood. His wife,
who died May 25, 1899, was Elizabeth Swentsel. To them were
born fourteen children of whom eleven are living. Frank, of Salem City; William,
of Green County; Cornelius and Maria, now Mrs. J. C. Fremont
Boyer, of Nickleville; Harry of Salina; John,
of Myron, Indiana; Mattie, Mrs. William Jacoby, Lewis and Miss
Carrie, of Kossuth; Oliver, of Woodville, Ohio, and Belle,
Mrs. Frank Uber, of Kane. Only Frank and William
were absent from the funeral, which was held on April 26th in the St. Mark’s
Lutheran Church, of which the deceased was a member for more than thirty years. Rev.
S. E. Smith, of Lamartine, conducted religious services and was
assisted by Rev. Cupp, an old neighbor. “Thou shalt rise up
before the hoary head, and shalt honor the face of the old man, and fear thy
God.” Lev. 19:32.
