OBITUARY: FREEDA BELLE DOLBY NEWELL (

Freeda Belle Dolby Newell, 92, a resident of Beverly
Healthcare, Oil City, formerly of Oil City RD 2, died at 6:38 a.m. Thursday,
October 5, 2000, in Northwest Medical Center at Franklin. Born Sept. 16,
1908, in Millcreek, she was a daughter of Vernon Smith Dolby and Viola
Elvira Sigworth Dolby. Mrs. Newell had lived in Oil City most
of her life and was a 1925 graduate of Welch's Business College, Oil City, and a
1930 graduate of the Salvation Army Training College in the Scranton area.
Prior to entering Salvation Army training, she worked four years for Holmes
and Crosby Architects. After six years of officership with the
Salvation Army in the Scranton area, Mrs. Newell, along with her husband,
returned to the Oil City area. When her youngest child entered junior high
school, Mrs. Newell re-entered the work force, working 1- years for the
Girl Scout and eight years for Marian Catlin Business Service.
Mrs. Newell was a member of the Oil City Salvation Army where she was a
Sunday School teacher, corps pianist, bandsman and songster for more than 50
years . She also was Home League secretary for 10 years and the Young
People's secretary for 25 years. Upon retirement in 1971, she was very
active in the AARP, RSVP and the Meals on Wheels program. She was a member
of the Senior Citizen Center in Oil City and was a member of the Mostly Brass
music group. Mrs. Newell received t he Golden Deed Award April 22,
1975. Her hobbies included traveling, sewing, crocheting, reading and
crossword puzzles. Mrs. Newell was married in the Oil City Salvation Army
Citadel on May 15, 1929, to David Clyde Newell, who survives. Also
surviving are three daughters, Betty Newell Lyons and Viola Mae
Newell, both of Ocala, Fla., and Mrs. Raymond (Mary Louise Newell)
Marshall of Oil City; one son, David Vernon Newell of Strongville,
Ohio; five grandchildren, Linda Lyons Brown of Florence, KY., Raymond
Marshall Jr. of Danville, KY., Leanna Rae Marshall Conant of Quincy,
Mass., Ingrid Newell Martin of Brunswick, Ohio, and Amy Newell Holt of
Cleveland, Ohio. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Newell was
preceded in death by two grandsons, Ronald Robert Lyons and Michael
Marshall, and one brother, Don Dolby. Friends may call from 2
to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday in the Hutchinson Funeral Home. Funeral
services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home with Major
James Miller, retired, and Captain James Foley of the Oil City
Salvation Army, officiating. Interment will be in Grove Hill
Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army
Music Department Starlake Scholarship Fund, Pittsburgh.

OBITUARY: JOHN J. NEWELL
John J. W. Newell, 66, died at his home, 228
Mylan St., at 6:45 a.m. Wednesday, following an extended illness.
The deceased was born in Wayne county, November 17, 1874, a son of John
W. and Phoebe Phillips Newell. On May 5, 1902
he married Miss Jennie Mahood at Lamonte, Pa. Mr.
Newell was employed in the lumber industry for many years before coming
to Oil City in 1918 when he became employed by the Pennsylvania railroad as a
watchman, serving in that capacity 21 years before his health failed a few years
ago. He was a member of the Nazarene church at the Junior Order of United
American Mechanics and also of the Loyal Order of Moose. Surviving are his
widow and the following children; Mrs. Jennie Walls, David C.,
Elmer E., Chester E., Clayton C., and Miss Mildred H. Newell,
all of Oil City; William F., and Alonzo W. Newell,
Waterbury, Conn.; John W. Newell, Columbus, Ga.,; Mrs.
Orpha Orr, Cranberry, and Harry F. Newell,
Ft. Meade, Md., also 20 grandchildren. The body was removed to the home
of Mrs. Marshall J. Walls, daughter of the deceased, 182 Plumer
St.
ANNIVERSARY: OBSERVE 50TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY (nice
picture of this couple)
Clarion, Aug 13,-(special)- Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Nulph, residents
of Clarion county since birth and descendants of pioneer Clarion county
families, quietly celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at their farm home
near Fisher in Millcreed township, on August 8. The aged couple, Mr. Nulph, now
past 80, and Mrs. Nulph, nearing the 73 mark, are both in excellent health and
still retain all their faculties. With the assistance of a son, they continue to
farm on a large scale. Mr. Nulph was born along the banks of the Clarion River
on July 22, 1862, and is a son of the late John and Mary Blakely Nulph.
More than 65 years ago he built his home within a stone's throw of the Clarion
river, and near the spot where he was born in an old log house. They have lived
there since. Before their marriage Mrs. Nulph was Anna Belle
Johnston and he was born in nearby Farmington township, on January 18,
1869. Mr. Nulph for many years followed the lumbering business as well as
farming. During his youth and young manhood, he was a pilot on the Clarion
river. He added that he took to rafting when but 13 years old, and soon after
became a pilot. He has not missed a river raftsmen reunion since the association
was organized a number of years ago. Their children are James, John and
Edward, all of Milcreek township, Henry of Farmington
township, and a daughter, Catherine of New Kensington.

OBITUARY: MRS. ADALINE NULPH
Mrs. Adaline Margaret Nulph, 72, died at her home
near Scotch Hill at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, following a five weeks illness.
Her husband, Thomas Nulph preceded her in death five years ago.
Surviving are the following children: Mrs. Grace Ruldolph,
Endeavor; Mrs. Sara Harry, Scotch Hill; James E., at
home; Hary A. of Scotch Hill. Ten grandchildren and nine
great grandchildren also survive as well as the following sisters: Mrs.
Jacob Nulph, Fisher; Mrs. Jane Moore, Scotch Hill;
Mrs. Mattie Lewis, Leeper and Mrs. Minnie Woodard
of Vowinckle. Funeral services will be held at the family home at 2 p.m.
Tuesday, with Rev. J. L. Murray of Chapmanville, officiating.

OBITUARY: JACOB E. NULPH
A funeral service for Jacob Edward Nulph of Fisher, will be
held at 2:30 p.m. today at the Fisher Presbyterian church with Rev.
Logan officiating. Interment will be in the Fisher cemetery. Mr.
Nulph was born July 22, 1862. On August 8, 1893, he married Anna Bell
Johnson, who survives. He is also survived by the following children: Henry
of Helen Furnace, John, Joseph and Edward at
home and Catherine of Warren; and seven grandchildren
