THE STREETSWEEPERS DREAM You can see me wid me little cart upon the street aich day, Claning after horses for which I gets good pay. I loikes to clane and sweep, and dodge around the teams, But at noight when I get in bed, I hav such terrible dreams. I see’s horseshit on the ceilin, and horseshit on the flur, Horseshit on the tate-a-tate and hosrshit on the dure; Horseshit in the sugarbowl—horseshit in the chair; Horseshit in me phwhiskers, and horseshit ivereephwere. The best friends the claners hav are the little English sparrows Shure they’d eat more horseshit in wan day than’ud fill a big wheelbarrow. But in spite of all the sparrows eat, and I cleans wid me broom In me dreams there’s loads of horseshit piled all around the room. There’s horseshit in the waher pail, and horseshit in the sink, Horseshit in every bit I eat and everee thing I dhrink. Horseshit on the pillyshams and horseshit in the bed; And sometimes I think there’s nothing at all but horseshit in me head. Me woife sez it’s the noighmare that makes me act so bad, Fut I tears up all the bed clothes, and screams and leels loike mad. This morning about haf past three I nearly lost me head, Fut I thot the noightmare had been there and shit all round me bed. I see horseshit on the dur mat, and horseshit on the wall; Horseshit in the kitchen stove, and horseshit in the hall; Horseshit in me poomkin pie, and on the windy pane; And the doctor told me woife that I had horseshit on the brane. Now they’re buildin waggins to run bo steam that never shits, begob, And bimeby whein they gits plenty, I spose I’ll lose me job. Fur al things happen fur the best, and praps will save me loife; Fur I’m crazy now from horseshit, and its nearly kilt me woife. Watermark on the paper: W.
