United We Quilt

Who We Are

We are a group of quilters in Vermont who are deeply saddened by the terrorist attacks on our country on September 11, 2001. As an attempt to offer comfort for those who lost loved ones in this tragedy, and to provide healing for our hearts and souls, we are recruiting quilters from all over who are willing to make a memory quilt/quilts for a family to memorialize their loved one and we are seeking families who would desire such a donated gift. The quilts can include photos, pieces of clothing, and/or whatever else the family desires. They will be created for and given to the families at no charge, any costs incurred will be the responsibility of the volunteer quilting groups. As of August 9, 2002, we have matched over 270 family members and friends who lost loved ones with volunteer quilters from all over the US, Canada and Australia. We have been spreading the word through relief organizations, businesses and grief counselors. As the anniversary of September 11th approaches many more families have requested memory quilts. This is an excellent time for quilters who are needing a very personal, caring way to remember those precious lives lost on September 11, 2001, to join the project and make a lasting difference for families.

Spread the Word

If you are a quilter and would be interested in "adopting" a family to make a memory quilt for, or if you know such quilters, and if you are a family member suffering this unspeakable loss, or know of such individuals who could benefit from a lasting, warm, comforting reminder of their loved one, please be in touch with this healing project.
All information will be confidential and will be used solely for the comfort and healing of those involved. United we quilt, for healing, love and hope.
