this used to be a review of the stark raving jams CD..
hence S-RAVjams! now it's a miscellaneous trivia blog.
I do not look like myself! it's just so long ago, ain't it??

recent gig(s)
june 20 was very good
a full house
and
june 21st was even better
my most important influence for the Alfalfa nights seems to have been mr. Ralph Towner, who once said something about staying true to the musical language of the instant ( of this very moment)
PLAY what you feel in the present time. and for me, if that means to improvise spontaneous bits then so be it. it's all good, as they say.
when i play the coffeehouse - i'm more hell bent on playing things perfect- i have a perfectionism obsesive compulsive kind've thing going on. it was also more of a pure emotional experience for me - i felt it very deeply and even though i was awfully tired and stressed out that day; it still made me play like (one of my favorite prog bands from the past) Gentle Giant comes to mind. they were perfectionists too, ' Live ' or in the studio, they were also creative as can be. Kerry Minnear is a genius..and Gary Green is such a incredibly good guitarist though very very subtle you don't readily recognize just how great he is - it's never "in your face", BUT always sophisticated and amazingly accurate..
jesus he was/is good.
i got a good review in the KY thumbpicker's Club Newsletter, by the way.
about a concert played this past December 2007 in Louisville.
with Pat Kirtley, too.

it takes one to know one??
you know how this 'euphemism' is sort of always used in a negative context? "takes one to know one"...HOWEVER IT CAN BE positive too- it takes a perceptive-intelligent-thoughtful-sensitive (and talented) human being to recognize the same in someone else's talent or musical abilities..
i.e...if i can truely apreciate 'your' good qualities/personality then maybe i have some of those good traits, too, in ME, in myself! it would be nice to look at it that way, you know, ( instead of in a negative self-critical way- or fashion).
please talk to me - write e mail -
soon.
Bruce Cockburn; Life Short Call Now
was the title of his most recent CD.
