Black Henna Warning
Warning BLACK HENNA!!!!!

Recently the FDA has been concerned about the effects of PPD contained in hair dyes and even worse PPD added to natural henna to enhance or give a darker color.  The FDA will only let products with complete ingredents to be sold as products to the public.  This does not stop the sale of products that has PPD listed as an ingredent.  This poison finds its ways in henna mixed or applied unmixed for a BLACK HENNA design.
The FDA wants to ban henna that comes into the USA because of this adulturation. Read more about it PETITION  AGAINST FDA BAN as a henna artist I rely on henna and I am concerned.

WARNINGS!!!
The art of henna can be great fun ,but when chemicals are added to the natural henna powder itself then there can be problems.
Henna in its natural form has a unique color of its own.  Depending on the freshness of the henna to the actual area where the henna is applied.
There is a varity of colors to choose from, but all colored henna paste has chemicals that alter the natural colors and they may cause allergic reactions in some people.
Black Henna Powder is one of the main causes in some of the worst reactions from a henna tattoo.  Black powdered henna has a chemical called PPD in it and it can cause rashes, itching, burning, blisters, and open areas that can become infected if not seen by a docter.  In most cases PPD will cause chemical burns and in worst cases liver damage.
When getting a henna design done ask the artist what the ingredents are, if he does not know then don't bother, he should know his/her product.
Children are more prone to have a reaction from even natural henna.  Children under age six should not have a design done.
The above pictures show what will happen in a mild case of
chemical burn.  The first picture was taken about 1hr from
the time of application, the black henna had already dried
to my skin.  The next is a closeup of the flower portion of
the design.  This picture was taken about one day after
application.  You can see that the skin has become irritated
and itchy.  The next photo was taken about two weeks after
application.  You can see where the skin is raised and swollen.  The last photo was taken three weeks
later and most of the black henna is gone.  The last photo was taken
in April of this year and the brown scare is finally faded
WHAT TO DO

If you think that you are going to have an allergic, or any sort of
reaction, DON'T HAVE THE DESIGN DONE!!!  The best thing to do
is use only 100% natural henna powder.  I found out the hard way
but I was lucky I had no other reaction than a itchy rash.  I also
contacted the distributer and asked what I should do to relieve
my discomfort.  My advise is to see a docter but most Doctors
are not able to pinpoint the problem but THE HENNA PAGE has
a page that can be printed and brought to the docters.  It has
alot of info that can be usefull to him and gives a list of chemicals
that are in some black hennaes.

We are all responsable for our own actions and when ever we
have a tattoo done or a temporary henna tattoo done we have
the responsablity to ask the artist if its safe, clean and what
chemicals are in the henna, if any.  Any artist should know his
materials.  If the vendor cannot give you a list of what is in his
henna, then most likely its unsafe.

In my case I was advised to:
                                                                                                                                  1. Clean the area with warm water and no soap
                     2. Dry with a clean towl.  Just pat the towl to dry
do not rub the area dry.
                     3. Apply plenty of 100% Aloe Vera jel on the affected
                         area.
                     4. Wash off any Aloe Vera jel that may dry to the area
with warm water only.  Some soaps irritate.
                      5. Reapply Aloe Vera to the area at least three times a
                          day.
                      6. Avoid scratching the area, this may break open
                          the blisters and cause infection.
