VETERINARY CORPS MUSEUM & ARCHIVES

DEDICATED TO THE MILITARY VETERINARIAN

The Museum was conceived and founded by John N. Case, Jr., BS, DVM. Dr. Case began collecting militaria in 1955. He was graduated from Auburn University's School of Veterinary in 1966. After his being graduated from Veterinary School, Dr. Case started refining his collection so as to combine his veterinary interests with general military collecting. He restricted his collecting to veterinary militaria in 1975. Presently, the Museum houses veterinary militaria from 55 countries, dating from 1796. Currently, the Museum is in an acquisition phase and is seeking donations of veterinary militaria. He may be contacted by email: vetkorps@aol.com, by telephone: 954-931-3886, or by snailmail: 5462 North University Drive, Lauderhill, Florida 33351-5006 USA.

THE MUSEUM'S GOALS

Being as veterinary militaria is not as widely collected as is the militaria of the combat arms, Dr. Case has found that military veterinary history and its attendant artifacts are being lost to antiquity. Therefore, in an effort to save this important portion of veterinary history, Dr. Case is collecting veterinary militaria, from all countries and of any era, including collateral militaria from the Remount Service, farriers, doghandlers, & pigeoneers, as well as related documents, books, photographs and instruments. Upon Dr. Case's retirement from private practice in about 5 years, he plans to open a formal Museum to showcase veterinary militaria and history that will be open to the public.

PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIPS

The Museum has been sanctioned by the United States Army Veterinary Corps. Dr. Case is a member in good standing in the American Veterinary Medical Association, the American Veterinary History Society, the British Veterinary History Society, the World Association For The History Of Veterinary Medicine, and the Vietnam Dog Handlers Association. The Museum is listed in the GUIDE TO THE VETERINARY MUSEUMS OF THE WORLD, 1998. Dr. Case is a published author and is preparing more manuscripts for publication.
