Welcome to HealthEssence.com. Searching for health information over the Internet can be frustrating --  too much or too little information.  HealthEssence.com offers readers balanced health information of current interest. We scan the news, message boards, and take suggestions from readers, for topics of current interest.  On a monthly basis, HealthEssence lists Web pages that offer the best information on selected health topics. Web pages are reviewed; pages judged to be reliable and useful are sorted into three progressive reader levels: beginning (easy-to-read), intermediate (average difficulty), and advanced (in-depth). We deliberately limit the selections to ten or less sites at each level, not to overwhelm the readers with information overload.

Information from HealthEssence will be transferred to the HealthNavigator Web site. Both HealthEssence and HealthNavigator are experimental approaches, searching for the best way of presenting Internet health information. Eventually, the vast amount of Internet health information will be compiled onto a third Web site that hopefully will become the best Web site for providing diversified health information from different Internet sources. The ultimate goal is to access usable Internet health information quickly and easily.

Breast cancer and melanoma are topics for this month.  The National Cancer Institute (NCI) reports,  "Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among women in the United States (other than skin cancer). Each year, more than 180,000 women in this country learn they have breast cancer ..." and that " Melanoma is the most serious cancer of the skin. In some parts of the world, especially among Western countries, the number of people who develop melanoma is increasing faster than any other cancer. In the United States, for example, the number of new cases of melanoma has more than doubled in the past 20 years ..."

We welcome your suggestions. Your feedback will help us improve this site and HealthNavigator site. If you are aware of  better Web sites than those listed here, please let us know.
