CLUB HISTORY:
The Kanawha River Bassmasters club was founded in 1989 by a group of fisherman that wanted to increase their knowledge and enjoyment of BASS fishing by drawing off the experiences of others and by the friendly competition our club promotes through the use of a buddy/partener format.  Our original members all came from the Putnam County area, near Winfield.  Our club has grown each year with a normal membership in excess of 12 members.  We are proud to be the representing club of the Kanawha River, which has become a beautiful and clean place to pursue many sport fish including Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass (including the 6.5 lbs. smallmouth caught by club member Jody Green in April 1999, which is shown on our Photo Page), Spotted Bass, and other species such as musky and hybrid striped bass.  The river which once was a chemical dumping ground is now one of the best places to catch trophy, as well as, large numbers of BASS.  The river is a navigational river controlled by the U.S. Army Corps. of Engineers.  The river has four pools named for the the locks and dams placed along the river:  Glasgow, Marmet, Winfield, and Gallipolis (located on the Ohio River).  The states' capitol city, Charleston, is located on the Winfield pool, where most of the public boat ramps are located for access.
TOURNAMENTS:
Our club generally has eight tournaments between the months of March and September each year.  The club fishes at different sites each year including sites such as Sutton Lake, Summersville Lake, Burnsville Lake, East Lynn Lake, Plum Orchard Lake, Hawks Nest Lake, all Kanawha River pools and many Ohio River pools. Each tournament has a 5 fish per team limit.  Tournament sites are voted on each year by all club members.
