The morning sun shone through the clouds, sending light down in glorious array.
My heart held a moment for the breathtaking beauty of the newborn day.
I envisioned Christ coming in glory, appearing in such a way.
Little did man know, it was but a stolen moment away.
Simple joy filled my heart as I drank in this stirring sight.
His words came to remembrance; "I come as a thief in the night."
Sadness crept its way into my heart for those who would be beneath.
On such a day there surely would be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
I was torn for those of this world, who loved their lives, who knew not the cost.
I understood then in his patient mercy, my God was willing that none should be lost.
I felt a stab of sadness then, how God must feel to lose even a single one,
for he so loved the world that he sent to die for us, his only begotten Son.
