John Denver And Me

informative narrative about pop
legend, John Denver, detailing

his millions of fans.
A Review: "An Inspiring Book About an Inspring Musician...."Hundreds of years from now when people are living to be 250 years old, routinely traveling through space, and hunger has indeed been wiped off the planet, there will be little thought given to the Twentieth Century, except, perhaps, by historians with a particular interest in this time period. And most of the composers and musicians of our time will be forgotten.
Yet millions of people will still listen to the music and the voice of John Denver with the same reverence and passion that our generation holds for the classical composers such as Beethoven and Mozart. Here is a book which evokes those passions because it is such an intimate look at a musical and a humanitarian force in our lifetime who has touched the lives and emotions of so many.
This book offers a very personal insight to John Denver's capacity for opening his heart to others, to his boundless energy to give and receive love, to his unique ability to provoke deep-seated feelings with his music and to his leadership in arousing generosity in others by the way he lived his life.
And what a fantasy come to life this books tells. Imagine being infatuated with your idol whose music has seen you through so many episodes in your life and then meeting that person and having an intense, albeit brief, relationship with them - like a dream come true. Some people have a companion for 20 years and do not have the kind of intimacy and connection that the author had with John Denver both from being with him and from afar.
No doubt this book will inspire feelings of jealousy and indignity for those who regard John Denver as practically a god and who believe that we mortals are not entitled to know him on such a personal level. But the truth is, John Denver was a man - with a rare and special gift of creating music and delivering it in a way that makes our lives richer.
We can be grateful for a book that not only gives us very personal look at John Denver but also provides a close look into what inspired such timeless music that will be ours to relish for generations to come."
Note from the author:
I wrote this book shortly after a long term relationship I had been in ended - badly. I began to listen to John Denver's music again and it got me through the terrible times, as it had gotten me through all those times before - in the 70's and 80's. I have been shocked and saddened by the remarkably negative reviews this book has received. And, of course, I have been thrilled to see the other reviews - reviews from people who really "got" what I was trying to say. To respond to offensive reviews for the benefit of those who have not read the book - I suspect if I had just left a couple of details out it may have been received by these "reviewers" in a whole different way. One should know that this book is a tribute to John Denver in every possible way and chapters include his biography, discography, tributes to John by notables such as Bill Clinton, chapters on the background of his songs and chapters on his amazing humanitarianism and on his spirituality. To call my book "trash" is ridiculous. At the very least, it is a thorough factual background with references for anyone wanting to know about John Denver.

An excerpt:

...I regularly, at times, daily, would play his music simply to feel - feel happy, feel sad, feel excited, feel hopeful. And certainly if I was feeling one way when I would listen to a John Denver tune I would feel entirely differently when the song was over - usually lighter, inspired or moved. I required his music like some people require church for peace of mind. And, I cried a lot. But even crying over a broken heart, or a missed opportunity, when accompanied by John Denver, was a beautiful thing...I never thought that this wonderful being - John Denver - could ever be in my life....

....Afer we exited to the upper cabin, John asked me to sit down with him for a while. This was one of the greatest moments of my life. But then there were more and they kept getting better....
