I discovered Colm
Wilkinson, one of the most extraordinary singing
and acting talents of our time, in 1998 when I stumbled upon the video of "The Tenth
Anniversary Concert of Les Misérables." Since then I have found he is also an exceptional gentleman, the
most visible joy for me being his unfailing graciousness to his fans. Most fans
know him for his incomparable work as The
Phantom in "Phantom of the Opera" and as Jean Valjean in
"Les Misérables," but fans have also been fortunate enough to see him
at charity performances, and in 2004-2006, his concerts celebrating the
issuances of his CD, Some of My Best Friends Are Songs. They all have been opportunities for great
stage door experiences, or in the case of the concerts, the wonderful chance
to stand in line with fans, inside where it is warm, and talk for a minute
with Colm as he signs CDs.
Over these past years I have collected photographs of these fun times
at stage door, some I have taken and some from other fans, as well as
photographs from the early years. I am using this totally unofficial web site to share them
with other Colm Wilkinson fans.
Dennis Wholey
on "This Is America" once commented on Colm's performance in the
Music of the Night Concert: " There are moments when you (Colm
Wilkinson) are
working on that stage where it is as good as it can get." Perhaps in
the Tenth Anniversary video of the Les Misérables Concert more than
anywhere else, we understand what Mr. Wholey meant.
