Biography of Lautrec
Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec
Henri-Marie Raymond De Toulouse-Lautrec was born in 1864, in the south of France.

As an adult he stood just 5 feet tall, with a fully developed body but shrunken legs.  At the age of seventeen Lautrec moved to Montmarte, a seedy part of Paris where many brothels were located.  In 1889 the Moulin Rouge oped and became the focus of Lautrec's art.  Lautrec drew the singers, dancers, prostitutes, poets, as well as all the highborn and lowborn who came to the Moulin Rouge, with a style that captured the nightlife in Paris.

Lautrec had no regular home.  He lived among the prostitutes. Lautrec began to drink more and work less.  His situation became so grave that his family placed him in a sanitarium.

In September 1901, two months short of his thirty-seventh birthday, Lautrec died at his family's estate after having a stroke.
