My History With Elvis
My earliest memories of listening to Elvis were on 8-track tape when I was a very young child. I remember listening to them on our old 8-track player and when my mom played them in the car when she was taking me to the doctor's office and other places. My mom had been an Elvis fan since the very beginning of his international stardom and she passed it on to my brother and older sister but it was in the summer of 1986 that I started becoming a true, die hard fan of Elvis Presley myself. I had just turned 13 at the time and it was very shortly before the ninth anniversary of his death. I would go into my brother's bedroom and browse his collection of LPs and cassette tapes. I had always had somewhat of an interest in Elvis Presley (though I was more into the music that was popular at the time) so I thought I'd listen to my brother's Elvis records and tapes. It was at that point and time that I began to develop an interest in the King of Rock and Roll that would change my life forever. Listening to Elvis Presley has been a great source of entertainment, comfort and inspiration to me ever since. It was in 1998 that I finally got to visit Graceland as a gift for my 25th birthday. I enjoyed every minute of the trip and hope to go back someday. It was like getting to know Elvis Presley as a friend. I'm also happy to see that young people even today are developing an interest in his music. It's not that hard to understand why they call him the King of Rock and Roll.

My Favorites from Elvis
I have far too many favorite Elvis songs to try and name them all; but some that definitely come to mind are Don't Be Cruel, Love Me Tender, Are You Lonesome Tonight, Can't Help Falling in Love, It's Now or Never, Burning Love and An American Trilogy. I also have Elvis favorites that some of you may not be familiar with. I truly love to hear him singing tender love ballads, gospel and Christmas songs because he sang them with such beauty and feeling. My favorite Elvis movies include King Creole, Viva Las Vegas, Spinout and Speedway. My favorite Elvis performances are the '68 Comeback Special, Aloha From Hawaii and the performances from the concert films Elvis- That's the Way It Is and Elvis on Tour. One of my favorite traits about Elvis definitely has to be his kindness and generosity because of the fact that he never forgot what it was to be poor and to do without when he was growing up even after becoming so rich and famous.

My Poetic Tribute
Here are some poems that I wrote to pay tribute to Elvis. I hope that all of you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoyed writing them.
My Tribute to Elvis
O King of Rock and Roll, so worthy of your crown.
When I hear you sing, it always makes me smile.
With a sound and style you called your very own,
just to hear you sing makes my life worthwhile.
It gives me comfort when the world gets too cold.
It picks me up when I feel so blue.
It always makes the world much brighter
when I hear the music that only you could do.
When I hear you sing with such great feeling,
the worries of the world mean nothing to me.
When I hear you sing sweet words of love,
a peaceful feeling comes over me.
Thank you so much for the wonderful music.
It always makes me feel right at home.
Thank you so much for the wonderful music.
It means more to me than you could have ever known.

As I Walk Through Graceland
What a glorious feeling as I walk through Graceland
Beautiful home of the King of Rock and Roll
To learn more about his wondrous legacy
And the countless lives he so greatly touched.
I feel so alive as I walk through Graceland
Listening to the music he did so well
And learning so much of the image and the human
That serve as inspiration to me.
I feel so at home as I walk through Graceland
With the many comforts that flood my soul
I'll ever cherish the memory of this walk
As one of the best moments I'll ever have.

The King On Stage
I watch the King on stage
I sit in awe of his wondrous talent
I admire his gigantic presence
And his awesome sense of energy
I hear the King on stage
Singing songs as only he could
And feeling each note he sang
You could just feel his emotion
I behold the King on stage
I admire its timeless eloquence
For me, it's easy to understand
Why they call him the King of Rock and Roll
