On Sunday morning Dec. 30, while finishing locating a lost hunter, Air Evac 16 crashed in a heavly wooded rough area. All crew members were killed. The crew included a pilot, flight nurse, and a Paramedic. This crew was well known throughout the area, they had picked up patients from all area hospitals and did scene flights with most area Fire Departments. Allan Bragwell, the Paramedic on the crew was a very good friend. I have known Allan for over 20 years. We worked together several years at Helen Keller Ambulance and we went to Paramedic school in Huntsville together. For 6 months all we saw was work, classroom or rotations. Allan was a great worker and fun to be around. He could make the worst day brighter. I hope his kids grow up knowing what a good person he was. We will keep his family in our thoughts and prayers. Allan, you will be deeply missed.

CONGRATS TO JEFF NICHOLSON, ASST CHIEF ON BEING SELECTED TO BE A PART OF THE HONOR GUARD. IT TAKES A SPECIAL PERSON TO SERVE ON THE HONOR GUARD, I AM SURE HE WILL DO A GOOD JOB.

In August we learned that we have been awarded a FEMA grant for the year 2006. It will total over $120,000 worth of new equipment. We will recieve 25 complete sets of turnouts, 7 new airpacks and 9 spare air bottles, an air fill station, a computer system, and $12,000 for training equipment. Ths grant is going to be very helpful to us in keeping our Firefighters safe. This grant requires a 5% match from the Fire Dept. so in the next few months we will need to raise approx. $6000. Please attend our fundraisers with an open heart.
