I specialize in modernist residential architecture out in the far NorthWest corner of the United States. I've long been based on Mercer Island, which is in Lake Washington just East of Seattle. Having done many projects over the years on this unique island of 22,000 citizens in the middle of a three million person metropolis, I'm highly experienced in dealing with the City of Mercer Island's stringent building requirements- an extremely important consideration in selecting an architect to help you in any building and/or remodeling on the island (or anywhere else for that matter).
And "Green Building" techniques have long been an important part of my practice. My varied experience specializing in custom home design for individual clients makes me especially effective in helping you achieve the home you and your family need. My well-detailed homes are truly "Craftsman" in spirit using the best of the old ways with all the new tools available to build a better, more efficient home.

My Architectural Design services include consultation in creating your new home or remodelling your present home. Some of my past projects include a sizeable ranch home on the Pampas of Argentina, two homes at Volcano, Hawaii, a number of homes in Bellevue, Redmond, Kirkland, Woodinville, Mercer Island as well as Seattle and on Lopez Island and the other San Juan Islands of the State of Washington.
How well I've served my clients is evidenced by the fact that many of these are repeat clients- as many as two or three or four or five (or in one case, six times) as they move around the country (or the world).
Making your existing home
a better place in which to live-
As a residential architect of many years experience, I’ve long been involved in helping homeowners achieve better living by remodeling their present abode. This involves "programming"- determining what’s needed and then making it happen- no easy matter in these days of more restrictive Building and Earthquake as well as Energy Codes.
The first step I take is to determine if the proposed project is feasible- is the basic structure of the house suitable for the changes that might be desirable? I carefully examine the existing situation; looking for obvious- and not so obvious problems- sagging, cracks, rot and/or water intrusion, etc..
Secondly I consider the client’s way of living and their ideas, adding a number of mine as suggested by my study of the situation. This collaborative process of client/architect working together usually results in a "Design Program" that can then be implemented with a good remodeling contractor. This person (and his Company) should be experienced and sympathetic to to the client/architect‘s aims and desires.
Thirdly my professional plans and sketches are developed, discussed by all concerned, altering and/or modifying as desired or necessary. Working Drawings and Specifications are then made that embody the defined goals, and detail just how they are to be achieved.
