There are no doctors out there for hermit crabs, I know, I've looked. I have designed this site to help with hermit crab care, as well as give you assistance if they are sick.
My Hermit Crabs
I have nine hermit crabs. Each one has his or her own individual personality. Some of them are very out going while others are very shy. They’re like people.
Assateague has lived with me the longest (7 years). She is VERY outgoing. She likes to sit on my pen while I write. She also likes to crawl up and down my arms. (She is named after the Assateague National Seashore in Eastern Seashore Virginia, USA.)
Tiger loves to watch TV. He is particularly fond of cartoons, any cartoons. I have had him almost as long as Assateague.
Ossippee was retrieved from a trash can. The family that had her didn’t want her anymore. We found her and took care of her. At first she was very shy. A lot of her legs and claws were damaged or either missing. After about a years time and 3 molts she is now much better. She eats and loves to climb. She has now been living with us for 5 years.
Wallops is a very happy crab. He has two speeds- sleep and run like crazy crab.
Isabella is about the size of a walnut. She loves to change shells like clothes and watch TV. We acquired Isabella and Wallops at the same time, about 6 years ago. The pet store they were living in was not treating them well. They were so small they couldn’t reach the food bowl and would have drowned in the water bowl.
Bolivia is very shy and loves to chirp at night. We often wake up thinking we have a cricket in the living room. She likes to give night concerts.
Bolivia, and the late Antonio, came to live with me after a friend decided she could no longer care for them, but wanted to find them a good home.
Fenwick is my tiniest hermit crab. I aquired Fenwick at a store in Fenwick Island, Delaware. He is the smallest. He is no longer than 3/8 of an inch. I have never see one this tiny and am not sure they should be selling crabs this small (in my opinion). Fenwick loves to goof off and dig tunnels. I have had Fenwick for about 3 years.
Santana is the largest of my hermit crab family. She is the size of a baseball and has been living with us now for about 2 years. Climbing is her favorite pass time in particular she enjoys climbing laundry baskets.
The newest addition to the hermit crab family is Arista. Arista was extremely shy when I first adopted her; however, after about a week, several apples later, she is one the most outgoing hermit crabs I've ever met. Arista loves apples and digging more than anything else.
