RHS Class of 1973 News
                                               December 4, 2005

Scott Schenke (Hales Corners) married Catherine Hart on September 16 at the Boerner Botanical Gardens in Hales Corners.  The day was incredibly beautiful.  Scott and Catherine were surrounded by the Rose Garden, friends, and relatives.  They were cheered on by their five children, ages 20, 20, 17, 15, and 15.  RHS alumni in attendance were Greg Lehman, Bill and Judy Swan, Kerry and Jenny Cartier, and Mike and Jane Stellmacher.  Chuck Meyer (RHS ’75) and his wife, Kay, attended the reception.  Scott and Catherine took a honeymoon to the Dominican Republic in November.  Congratulations and best wishes to Scott and Catherine!

Bill Swan (Sun Prairie) spent the month of August in the Netherlands.  Bill's company, Seal Graphics Technologies, has a sister plant in Raalte, a town of 15,000 in east central Netherlands.  The purpose of Bill's trip was to help in the production of laminating machines and to learn about machines that will now be made in Wisconsin.
Bill had time to explore the surrounding countryside and view the beautiful and varied architecture - some from the 1300 - 1400 era.  Weekends were spent exploring further afield, especially when Judy visited.  On the first weekend of Judy's visit, Bill and Judy toured the Randstad area (Delft, Den Hague, Rotterdam, Utrecht).  The second weekend was spent exploring Amsterdam.  Bill and Judy found the Netherlands to be a beautiful country and a good place to start foreign travel as many Dutch folks speak English.

Tom Burling (Markesan) recently wrote to correct an error in the July 2004 RHS Alumni News.  The boy with Tom in the picture that appeared on the front page of the July 15, 2004, issue of the Ripon Commonwealth Press was not Tom's son.  Rather, it was Jacob, the son of Tom's new wife, Caroline.

Don Gable, husband of Mary Hammerling Gable (Stoughton), works for TomoTherapy Incorporated in Madison.  Don's company has developed a revolutionary new medical system to deliver radiation therapy to cancer patients.     Hannah Root, daughter of Jeff and Penny Root (Fairfax, Virginia), will perform in the Tuba Christmas Concert at Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, on Monday, December 5.  Tuba players arrive at 4:00, practice for two hours, and then give a free concert of Christmas songs.  Hannah's tuba teacher, a chief master sergeant in the United States Air Force Band, will also perform.
Jeff and Hannah attended the United States Air Force Band's "Deck the Festive Halls" concert at DAR Constitution Hall (two block from the White House) on Saturday afternoon, December 3.  Hannah enjoyed seeing her tuba teacher perform.  With the big band and the Singing Sergeants, Jeff almost felt as if he had stepped back in time to experience a World War II era show.

News from Other Classes

Jill Geer (RHS '88) and her husband, Paul, welcomed their first child, Hayden John Souza, on October 12.  Hayden's middle name is in honor of Jill's dad.  Hayden weighed in at 9 lbs, 2 oz; was 22 inches long; and had a 38-cm head.  A photo is attached.  Congratulations to Jill and Paul!

Brian Blauvelt (RHS '74) is job searching and appreciates any leads.  Brian's Web site is:  http://www.webprofile.info/bblauvelt/
Brian saw Elton John at Madison Square Garden in New York City in late September.  Elton performed his classic album, "Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy," in its entirety to celebrate the 30th anniversary of its release.

Ruth Ann Smith (RHS '55), retired secretary at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, now works at Flowers by David.  She was a Sunday School teacher and confirmation teacher for many members of the RHS Class of 1973.  Ruth Ann helped to plan the Class of 1955's 50th reunion in September.  Jeff Root had a nice visit with Ruth Ann in August while she was recovering from foot surgery.
