RHS Class of 1973 Alumni News
May 2, 2004

Steve Meyer was elected to a three-year term on the Ripon School Board on April
6.  Steve previously served on the Board from 1998 to 2001.  Incumbent David Scott
(RHS '72) was reelected to the Board.  (Source:  Ripon Commonwealth Press, April 8,
2004).

Kathy (Kelm) Meinke (Madison) went on a US Bank Home Mortgage trip to the
Atlantis Resort in Nassau, Bahamas, in late February. She won the trip for exceeding
the company's goals in 2003. Two hundred loan officers qualified and each could bring
a guest.  They were wined and dined and recognized for being top performers in the
corporation. Kathy had a wonderful time, enjoyed beautiful weather, and had lots of
time for sun and relaxation.

Jennifer (Wagner) Gitzel (Ripon) has been named assistant vice president of
mortgage and retail lending at the Berlin office of Baylake Bank (RCP, February 26,
2004).

Jeff and Penny Root (Fairfax, Virginia) saw Bob Dylan in concert at the Warner
Theatre in Washington, DC, on April 4.
Jeff and Penny's daughter, Hannah (age 10), won two first-place awards in the
District Music Festival on April 17.  She performed a baritone solo and a
baritone/clarinet duet with her best friend.
Jeff accompanied Hannah's Girl Scout troop to the new Air and Space Museum
next to Dulles Airport on April 24.  The museum has the appearance of a huge,
stainless steel aircraft hanger.  Highlights include a Concorde supersonic jetliner, the
Enola Gay B-29 that dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima in 1945, an SR-71 spy
plane, and the Space Shuttle Enterprise (the prototype that never flew in space).

David and Mary Jane Schanke, parents of Rob Schanke (Pueblo West,
Colorado, but currently stationed in Kuwait), were pictured on the front page of the
April 29 issue of the Ripon Commonwealth Press.  They were attending a lecture on
the 650 Germans held in a prisoner of war camp on Douglas Street in 1945.
