| ELEMENTARY or GRAMMAR SCHOOL |
I began my regular schooling in South Gate at the San Gabriel Ave. Elementary School in 1932 when I was five. There are 2 or 3 instances that stand out in my mind, but most of it is quite vague.
In 1937 we moved from South Gate to nearby Downey where I started in the 5th grade (age 11) at the elementary school on 2nd St. just west of where the high school was (and still is). Memories from there are also sketchy, though I remember a lot of my fellow classmates, many of whom continued on with me into junior high school and high school.
