This is a simple presentation highlighting the efforts to seek out those in need and offer opportunities for food, clothing, shelter or medical care. I encourage those in my area to contribute to the health and welfare of the homeless by calling;
the Homeless Health Care Center @ (423) 265-5708 and reporting the location and circumstance of people who may be homeless.
We do nothing to or for those we meet unless we have their permission.

We have been working hard on our new program to work out in the community. Trying to respond quickly to community reports of those who may be in need of shelter, clothing or food. We can even help those forced to double up with friends or family when their time is running out.

The Camp sites continue to be the residence of choice even during this winter. Karen Moyer MD of the Homeless Health Care Center visits this camp about two miles from the center of Chattanooga. While this camp is not easy to find other camps continue to be makeshift as any attempt at sturdy protection will attract the attention of those who will tear down or steal what they find while the homeless away.

Most homeless camps are like this one, a simple sleep area made from found bedding. I'm leaving this picture for awhile since one of the most reclusive homeless could be found here. The Chattanooga Newspaper has since reported he died from rolling into a fire while sleeping not far from here.

If you can spend the night in a well heated (or cooled) room like this you could help at The St Matthew's Shelter for men located in the basement of the 2nd Presbyterian
Church downtown. This shelter seeks to provide a safe place to recover from living on the streets until housing can be rented. All residents at this shelter are identified by
Social Workers as working on an agreed upon plan and every night residents are screened by shelter coordinators before admission. This shelter is dependent on volunteers who occasionally spend the night and lock up 6:30 AM in the morning when everyone leaves.
Actually this room has been repainted and the carpet replaced since this picture.
If interested in St Matthew's the Coordinator is Tim Wood at the Community Kitchen and can be called at 756-4222 Monday through Friday
