MORE BLUES NOTABLES
Here's that Cotton Club show ( Johnny 'Clyde' Copeland's birthday party).  Bobby Kyle on guitar, SHEMEKIA COPELAND, I'm on bass, FLOYD PHILLIPS on keys.  Shemekia wasn't even 21 years old yet...but an AMAZING TALENT!
With Roscoe Gordon. Played bass for him at Chicago Blues.  Roscoe wrote that great song "Just a Little Bit" aka " A Teeny Weeny Bit of Your Love". He's a hoot and  a half!
It's with great regret that I inform you that Floyd Phillips passed away on Christmas Day 2001. He was with his family in Texas. He was a wonderful musician and a really decent human being. I liked him a lot. Click on his name to see him with his last band.
Show with JIMMY SPRUILL.  That's Dona Oxford on keys. Terra Blues, NYC.
Jazz Singer EVELYN BLAKEY
She's the eldest daughter of  famed drummer Art Blakey.   A treasured artist in NYC, she's my old pal from the 'hood...East Village, that is.
My old buddy CATFISH HODGE.
I ran into him a couple years ago when he played a rare concert in NYC. We used to cross paths & trade sit-ins a lot when he lived in D.C. andI lived in Charlotte, NC. I recorded his song, "To the Left" on my new CD.
Played warmup for TRACY NELSON  in Chapel Hill,NC; 1979. She heard me sing during soundcheck, and I told her I knew all of her material so she asked me to sing backup on her set.
Sitting in with LITTLE BUSTER at Manny's Carwash in NYC.
