More Resseguie Family History
In my research I have learned that most (if not all) Resseguies in the US can trace their roots back to Alexander Resseguie, who came to America in 1709.
He was a refugee who came to America for religious freedom. His Family Came from France in the Province of Languedoc, in southern France. Over the years there have been some branches of the family that have changed the spelling a little. Some of the spellings I have found are Ressegue (Like my grandfather spelled it), Resseque (like I spell it), Ressegiue, Ressequie, Ressique, Ressegieu etc.
The most common way to spell it is Resseguie with over 300 families in the US spelling it that way. If you want more info on the family's history feel free to E-mail me at JR541@aol.com. There is a Resseguie Genealogy book written in 1888 by John E.Morris which has a lot of info on Alexander and his descendants. In 1999 I was able to locate Morris' original handwritten manuscipt which contains two more generations of Alexander's decendants.
On our second trip to Connecticut Our cousin Kathy Resseque Crevier met us there.
Here she is posing next to the same grave that my sister had posed at a few months earlier.

The Cole/Hurlbutt house, Wilton CT.
This was the family home of Thomas
Cole and Mary Resseguie. Mary was
the daughter of Alexander Resseguie jr.
The picture in the background is of the Keeler Tavern which
still exists in the town of Ridgefield Connecticut today.
For over 50 years it was owned by Abijah Resseguie and
his wife Anna Keeler Resseguie. Anna inheritied it from
her father Timothy Keeler.

In the 19th century it was known as the Resseguie Hotel.
The Inn still has a cannonball imbedded in it from the
Revolutionary War battle that took place in Ridgefield in 1777.
The Inn is now a museum and is open to the public.

It seems the Resseguies of Sacandaga Park NY were also
innkeepers. This postcard is one of 3 that I own depicting the
Inn known simply as "The Resseguie." I Don't know exactly
Which Resseguies were the owners but as soon as I learn
more about them then so will you. If anyone out there
knows about this place, feel free to send me an email.
