And You Say You Love Me
by Valh
I am a little kit snuggled up with my mother,
Along with my sisters and my one little brother.
You come along and you squeal when you see me
And you say you love me.
You take me home, set me up in your room,
And cuddle me close, saying.."You've saved me from gloom,
I was sad and lonely you see."
And you say you love me.
I am a happy little ferret, who gets and love and care
With lots of toys and walks in the fresh air.
When you come home from work you hold me
And you say you love me.
A few months have passed and my life has changed,
You are busy with work and nights out arranged.
I lay in my cage as you walk past me
And you don't say you love me.
The fresh air walks are no more, the toys are broken,
My heart has grown sad from words of love never spoken.
My coat has grown dull, but you don't seem to see
And you don't say you love me.
One day you take me to a place called a shelter,
There are other ferrets running about, all helter and skelter.
You leave me there...and before you go you don't pause to look at me
And you don't say you love me.
The shelter owner bathes me and kisses my nose
And says to me, "I've seen this before and God only knows,
You are not the first and you won't be the last
Of little ferrets that have become part of their owners past.
Here you will know true love, you are safe in my arms,
Here are warm hammies and treats, life will at last have it's charms.
Look at me little ferret, look into my eyes and see my good heart,
You are here now forever, in my life you take part."
And you hold me so close I almost can't breathe...
And you say YOU LOVE ME....
and I know it's true.
