The Nashville Metro Police Department has a series of linked web sites that have now become quite famous. Many of these were designed and published by Lt. Ken Pence. His "Rate your Risk" site has become something of an icon on the Web having recorded over 1,000,000 hits since it was published in 1995. Lt. Pence has also published a site where he rates some of the more popular self-defense "weapons", like stun guns and pepper spray. You'll find a number of links to their sites below…

Self-Protection Tips by Lt. Pence and the Nashville Police Dept. This page has lots of "eye-pop" to it…embedded audio files, pics and lots of links! Tips on fighting back based on some good common sense… (I would stress that there's no substitute for actually being taught techniques by a proven and experienced instructor and then practicing them. Reading about techniques is informative and interesting; but no substitute for actually learning-by-doing them in a class…so after reading about them, find a good course…like Pro-Safe…and get some practice time!)

Sometimes it is just good legwork like keeping tabs on your credit report to find out if you've unwittingly become a victim of identity theft. This site talks about how to find if someone is misusing your social security number and what to do about it.
United States Government: What criminals can get away with…and what you have to put up with…are largely determined by our laws. Feel like you're being victimized? Mad as heck and not going to take it? Want to see some changes? This site will help you find your very own Congressional / Senatorial representative! Write them…they LOVE it! You may not see the changes you want in your lifetime; but with e-mail you can make your point and get it off your chest fast! (And sometimes they even write back! It's kinda fun!)
