Krishna Assistance Center, India is a NGO, which represents a body of volunteers, consisting of international and national participants who combine and coordinate their activities to serve humanity in different areas and at different levels. It has two groups with two major objectives. One group is responsible for running activities in normal time and the other group, which is highly competent and trained, is taking care of those activities which are undertaken to prevent and fight the menace of natural and man-made disasters.

KAC has its administrative and controlling office at 'FARIDABAD' bordering 'New Delhi'. It prepares programs for the institution as a whole and monitors step by step progress of their execution at different level and locations. It also coordinates the activities of KAC offices scattered at different locations and provides support system to them so that the sustenance of programs is maintained at every level. Moreover, it liaisons with other NGO's and Forums, Governmental bodies and other like minded institutions to integrate efforts and disseminate information pertaining to Most Vulnerable People and humanity.

Mission and Programms

The KAC as an NGO believes that the service to
a person or a community is nothing but a
service to the God. It has been formed with
a 'mission' to help and serve 'Most Vulnerable
People' [MVP] namely children, women and
elderly persons in particular and the humanity
in general. KAC is working round the clock to
fulfill its mission.

ACTIVITIES OF KAC

The activities undertaken by KAC include
conferences, seminars, symposium and training
in respect of cultural exchange, community
development, health and education, naturopathy,
Indian Yogic Practices and philosophical
intellect, disaster management, environmental
issues etc.. However, KAC also designs and
formulates specific programs keeping the
requirement of people at a particular point of
time.

The present activities of KAC may broadly be
divided into two major heads:-
1. Targeted Area Program [TAP]; and
2. Camp Area Program [CAP].

The activities, which are done on regular basis
in normal time, are covered under 'TAP' and the
activities, which are undertaken to fight
natural disaster or any specific requirement,
comes under 'CAP'. Presently KAC is operating
from three locations namely Faridabad (Haryana), Varanasi (a renowned tourist
place in the State of Uttar Pradesh) and
Narayanpur (a village located in the state of
Bihar). KAC is planning to run varied routine
programs and will also arrange 'Specific
Programs' for groups of volunteers/tourists on
special request.

HOW TO JOIN AND PARTICIPATE IN KAC PROGRAMS IN
INDIA

KAC, INDIA runs varied Programs throughout the
year in the different parts of the country. If
requested, Specific Programs are also prepared/
arranged for an individual or a group as per
their requirement. But, such request should be
made atleast 15 days in advance so that proper
planning is made. There is a requirement of
minimum one-month's commitment with KAC
programs. However, a commitment of at least
three months duration shall be preferred, as it
would provide proper opportunity and time to
volunteers to go through the programs in
detail. It would make a complete and satisfying
experience with KAC.

LONG TERM PROGRAMS:

KAC also arranges long-term placements of
atleast three months duration to provide
specialized knowledge and training. It requires
in-depth involvement in the work of the KAC and
other sponsoring organizations. Though, such
programs may be similar to that of the shorter-
duration, the focus may be more specific and
specialized. Volunteers can participate in the
works like editing and publishing of different
papers and notes, assisting 'program committee'
in drafting present and future programs,
providing valuable suggestions to improve
existing activities, independent organization
of projects and so on. People are placed at
different centres according to their
specialization/ profession under this program.
For example, computer professionals are
required to take up issues pertaining
to 'Information Technology'; Doctors are placed
at Medical Centers etc. Similarly, volunteers
wishing to work with children can stay at a
school or home for children for teaching them.
They should be prepared to learn some basic
Hindi language, preferably before they leave
for India.

SHORT TERM PROGRAMS:

Short Term Programs are prepared for a duration
of one week to four weeks keeping the
requirements and needs of each volunteer. Such
programs involve work with urban and rural
people. However, more thrust is given to
programs involving Indian villages and
villagers as this area provides better
opportunity to work for the welfare of
downtrodden people. The activities undertaken
in such programs may include community work,
supervision of construction of roads and
buildings, various agricultural activities,
literacy and health projects, yogic practices,
naturopathy, environment related issues,
special programs for the welfare of children,
women and elderly people, sanitation schemes
etc. These programs and projects are undertaken
for the welfare of Indian villagers. These
programs are mostly undertaken by respective
KAC units. However, other Non-governmental
organizations are also encouraged to
participate in these programs, especially in
those areas where KAC offices are not located.

Short-term projects also include office-related
activities of KAC offices in Faridabad and at
other locations. Moreover, it may also include
drafting and attending conferences and seminars
on community development, natural and man made
disasters, cultural exchange and environmental
awareness compaign etc.

PROGRAMS FOR GROUPS AND TEAMS:

groups and teams of volunteers are also
arranged by KAC. Such programs are useful for
groups of students and other tourist groups who
may like to experience the warm hospitality of
India.
