Remembering dad

This is my dad,Army SSGT. William A. Thomas,CO C,2ND BN,8TH CAV,4TH INF DIV.
He served in Vietnam and was killed during hostile ground action in the province of Kontum on February 16,1967.He was 27 when he died. I was only 4 months old so I never got to grow up with him in my life, but through stories from relatives and dad's friends I feel that I knew him.He may not have been in my life, but he has always been a part of my life and I make sure his memory stays alive with my son.We are very proud of the sacrifice my father made and do what we can for those listed as POW/MIA. They will never be forgotten...

Here is a poem I wrote for my dad

My father was a service man,
humble,dignified,and proud.
To do his duty he had sworn, from loving arms he was torn.
To my mother he'd pledged his undying love,
and that is what I am a product of.
To his country his promise to protect,
not knowing the lives this would affect.
To his comrads he gave his all,
until he answered that final call.
Upon The Wall his name they did engrave,
but it's his presence I'll always crave.
Though time can heal it can't erase
the sadness upon my face.
There's only the ghost of his memory
where my father should be.
