O.G.
O.G.
When O.G. heard the announcment of the hatching over the speakers his five flitters all trilled musically in excitment. O.G. felt excited too, from what he had heard from the dragonriders impressing a dragon was the most wonderful thing that could happen to a person. The dragon would stay with you forever and always love you, no matter what. It would be nice to have that kind of acceptance. O.G. walked onto the sands with all of the other candidates and waited for the hatching to begin.

The first egg that hatched was a copper rust but it didn't even so much as glance O.G's way. The next few dragons were blues and greens but then some more varied colors began to errupt from their shells. O.G. watched with amusment as a teal dragon ran in front of a pink one, causing the pink to fall on her rear. One of the girls seemed able to communicate with the teal and she spoke aloud to the hatchling.

She'll be in trouble all right, spoke a voice into O.G.'s head. To O.G.'s surprise the pink hatchling walked straight up to him and asked, Aren't you hot?

"I... " stammered O.G. "Yes?" All of O.G's flitters warbled in triumph and the pink dragonet joined her voice with theirs.

I am Latidoth! she called out to be greeted by O.G.'s laughter.

"But that's three names' worth!"

I am worth three flitters, at least. I hope I am... Latidoth cocked her head, waiting for O.G.'s answer.

"Of course you are. I bet Sherra's going to be pleased. She was right, I bonded here!"

You could ask her, she's up there. Latidoth tossed her head to indicate where the Head Knight sat in the sands, smiling warmly down at them.

"How about we ask her later. If I am correct a certain someone wants feeding." O.G. began walking in the direction of the kitchens, glancing behind at his new bond.

Hungry? I'm starving! The bipedal pink dragon bounded after her bond to stuff her gut with food.

Latidoth's warbling voice closed in a chord with the flitters as their concert finished. The audience clapped and applauded while O.G. bowed and Latidoth did the same. This wasn't quite the same as being a phantom but then again, nobody ever applauded a phantom either. O.G., Latidoth, and the flitters were loved for their music at the Opera House in Cy Village. The villagers enjoyed seeing the dragons that flew over their heads so much up close and enjoyed the lovely sounds that they make.

And we enjoy making those sounds for them, right O.G.? Latidoth stood up, the pink dragon looking even larger on her two hind legs.

Yes we do. Come on, Latidoth. Lets head back to Cy. As O.G. mounted on top of Latidoth he heard an appreciative rumbling of another dragon.

O.G. turned around to see Sherla and her dragon, also pink, behind them. "Great show," said Sherla. "How did you teach her to sing like that?"

O.G. smiled and shrugged. "It didn't take much. She came out of the egg like that. I think that she nearly drove Baeris insane with all of her constant singing. How about her?" He gestured at Sherla's dragon. "Does she like our singing?"

Sherla grinned and patted her dragon on the shoulder. "Actually, Lenth here is a him. Pink, yes, but male. Don't see too many dragons like him."

O.G. shook his head. "Plenty of blues, greens, and browns but not nearly enough pink dragons at Cy."

Sherla grinned even broader and hopped aboard her dragon. "Maybe someday there will be a few more," Lenth leaped from the ground and then Sherla was gone.

O.G. scratched his head in confusion. "What did that mean?" he asked to no one in particular.

Latidoth watched the receding figure of the other pink and replied, Well someday I must fly and Lenth is a fine dragon. His rider is right. Not many dragons like him.

O.G. blinked. "You want to fly now? Uh... I don't think that there is room on the sands..."

Latidoth snorted as she took off. I didn't say that I wanted to fly now, just someday. Hopefully not too far away though...

O.G. laughed and patted his dragon on the neck. "Maybe once Bir and Tansak get off the various sands you can have a shot. I don't think those dragons want to share. But... when you are ready I won't try to stop you. It wouldn't be bad to have more pink dragons in the world."

Darn right it wouldn't.

O.G. laughed once more and the two of them continued on their way back to Cy Dragonstake.

Head back home? Would you like to read O.G.'s candidate story? Latidoth is from the Healing Den!
