Bailey and Samuel Bailey.

Notes for ROBERT (ROBERTSON) BAILEY:

His will was dated April 4, 1777 and probated July 10, 1783, Albemarle Co VA.

 

His will was witnessed by Richard and Susannah Farrar and gives "the whole that

I am possessed with to my son Isham Bailey and my will is that he should take

care of and maintain his mother ..."

On 13 Jan 1773. Robertson Bailey of Saint Anne's Parish, Albemarle Co, VA., conveyed "in consideration of the natural love and sincere respect he hath for the said Isaac Crews, but more especially for the sum of five shillings current money of Virginia "four hundred acres which had been the property of William Bailey.

this land described below;

"one certain tract or parcel of land containing four hundred acres and lying and being in the count of Albemarle on both sides od Cary's creek on the north side of the Rivanna River being a tract that was granted to William Bailey dec'd. Isaac Crews grantee of this deed from Robertson Bailey therein is described as "Isaac Crews of Rockfish Parish and County of Bedford" The deed was witnessed by Richd Farrar, Wm. Bailey, and Sam'l Bailey. The deed was recorded at Albemarle August Court 1773.

Certificate that Robertson Bailey, father to William, wrote a will leaving everything to his youngest son Isham Bailey. "Chalkley Chron. Of Scotch-Irish Vol2 page 51"

 

His will was dated April 4, 1777 and probated July 10, 1783, Albemarle Co VA.

Henry Bailey,Sr. with his brother, William, enlisted under Col. Fry and was with Col. Washington at the battle of Gt. Meadows where William was killed.

Henry was also in Braddock's defeat, where he was badly wounded, but escaped and lived until his death, near his father.

Certificate, 23d November, 1803--Henry Bailey, of Albemarle, is eldest son of Henry Bailey (that is now living) and heir-at-law of sd. Henry, who, with his brother William, enlisted under Col. Fry and was with Col. Washington at the battle of Great Meadows, where William was killed. Henry was also in Braddock's defeat, where he was badly wounded, but escaped and lived, until his death, near his father.       In the name of God, amen, I Samuel Bailey, of the county of Albemarle, being in ____ ____ remembrance, but weak in body, do make and ordain this my last will and testement, in manner and form following: Verily first I bequeath my soul into the hands of Almighty God hoping that through the m torius oath and sufferings of my great ____ to gain free pardon and forgiveness for all my sins and offenses and my body to the grave to be buried at the behest of my ____ ____ ____ and as for my worldly goods which Almighty God has bestowed on me, I give and bestow them in manner and form following. Verily first I give the home and plantation wherein I now live unto my son William Bailey and the remaining part of my estate after my debts are paid to be equally divided amongst my surviving children, namely, John Bailey, Lucy Staton, Samuel Bailey, Thomas Bailey, and Mary Lyon, William Bailey, and I leave my son, John Bailey, Capt. Benjamin Harris and Thomas Farrar my executors to execute this my last will and testement and my will is that if my son William Bailey should die without

heirs that then the land to go to my son John Bailey's son James Bailey and if he should die without heirs then the land go to John Bailey's son Samuel Bailey.

Samuel was b. bef 1724, as he must have been of age in 1745, when a tract of

400 ac was patented to him. This land was in Goochland Co., one of the parent

counties from which Albemarle Co. was erected in 1744. The land lay "on the

head of Turpins Creek of Slate River." The patent was signed Sept 20, 1745.

 

Two years later, on Oct 1, 1747, another patent was given to Samuel Bailey for

100 ac, in Albemarle Co. on the S side of the James River on Glovers Creek of

Slate River. He sold this land on Feb. 13, 1749 to John Hunter for 8 lbs.

Service -Virginia Va. No. 16687 No. S-12965 Enlisted 1777, Albemarle County, Va., under Captain London Jones and Lieutenant James Woods. Stationed along seaboard watching British shipping, with First Virginia RegimeuL Re-enlisted,and served under Captain Harris, Leaks, Thomas, and Wharton, and Colonel Matthews and General Nelson. For a time was with General Lafayette at Jamestown. Applied for pension May 11, 1833, Kanawha County, Va. Certificate issued September 16, 1833. Died January 4, 1835. Reference to his son, Isham Bailey, Jr.

Certificate, 23d November, 1803--Henry Bailey, of Albemarle, is eldest son of Henry Bailey (that is now living) and heir-at-law of sd. Henry, who, with his brother William, enlisted under Col. Fry and was with Col. Washington at the battle of Great Meadows, where William was killed. Henry was also in Braddock's defeat, where he was badly wounded, but escaped and lived, until his death, near his father. Certificate that Robertson Bailey, father to William, wrote a will leaving everything to his youngest son, Isham Bailey.
