Patrick Henry Esquire Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia to all to whom these Presents shall come greeting - Know ye that by virtue and in consideration of a certificate in right of settlement giveven(sic) by the Commissioner for adjusting titles to unpatented lands in the District of Augusta, Botetourt and Greenbrier, and in consideration of the ancient composition of two pounds sterling paid by John Cantley into the Treasurey of this Commonwealth's there is granted by the said Commonwealth unto the said John Cantley a certain tract or parcel of land containing four hundred acres by survey bearing date the thirtieth day of March one thousand seven hundred and eighty two lying and veing in teh county of Greebrier on the Waters of Indian Creek adjoing the land of James Byrnside, John Handley and the fork survey and bounded as followeth to wit:

 

Beginning at two hickories and Spanish oak on a ridge on the north side of the creek, thence: north 37 degrees west sixty poles to a white oak and hickory; north fifteen degrees east fifty two poles to a white oak thence north seventy degrees east twenty poles to a hickory corner to Byrnside and with his line north thirty-five degrees east ten poles to two red oaks on the south side of a branch; north sixty-five degrees east fifty-two poles to a white oak; north fifty-five degrees east one hundred poles to a white oak and gum; south forty-five degrees east two hundred and sixty poles totwo Spanish oaks corner to Handley, and with his line south seventy five degrees west seventy-two poles to two white oaks; south twenty degrees east thirty-eight poles to two white oaks; south forty-seven degrees east thirty-four poles to a white oak; south ten degrees west one hundred and fourteen poles to a white oak corner to Handley on a line of the fork survey thence north fifty-five degrees west three hundred and twenty poles to the Beginning with its appurtenances to have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land with its appurtenances to the said John Cantley and his heirs forever

Beverley Randolph Esquire, Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia to all to whom these Presents shall come Greeting: Know Ye that by virtue and in consideration of part of a Land Office Treasury Warrant number seventeen thousand six hundred and twenty three, there is granted by the said Commonwealth unto John Cantley Junior a certain tract or parcel of land containing eighty-eight acres by survey bearing date the thirteenth day of February one thousand seven hundred eighty-seven, lying and being in the County of Greenbrier on the north side of Swoarbs(sic) Knobs betwixt James Collinges and a place where James Smith formerly lived and bounded as followeth, To Wit:

 

Beginning at a sugar tree and hickory on the first branch from the top, thence running south thirty-nine degrees west thirty-six poles to a white walnut and lynn, south twelve degrees west seventy poles to two lynns and hickory; south fifty-three degrees west fifty poles to two sugar trees; south seventy-three degrees west fifty-six poles to a bunch of lynns and buckeyes; north seventy degrees west thrity-two poles to a lynn and two ironwoods by the lick; north two degrees west twenty-six poles to an ash and buckeye on the end of a hill; north seventeen degrees west fifty-six poles to an ash and yellow lynn; north sixty degrees west eighty poles to a buckeye and hickory; north twenty-five degrees west fifty-two poles to a lynn and two ashes; north forty-nine degrees east thirty-five poles to two red oaks and sugar tree; north seventy-nine degrees east fifty-four poles to two sugar trees; south sixteen degrees west forty-four poles to a sugar tree; south fifty-six degrees east sixteen poles to a large chesnut(sic); south forty poles to a chesnut; south thirty-three degrees east eighty six poles to a lynn and berch(sic) by a large rock;; north seventy-seven degrees east forty-eight poles to a chesnut and maple across the lick run; north thirty-six degrees east forty-two poles to a white oak, chesnut and dogwood; north five degrees east sixty-four poles to a dogwood and two lynns; south eighty-eight degrees east sixty-six poles to the Beginning with its appurtenances to have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land with its appurtenances to the said John Cantley Junior and his heirs forever
