Descendants of William Copein Generation No. 1 1. WILLIAM1 COPEIN was born Abt. 1730, and died 1805 in Prince William
County, Virginia. He married ELIZABETH MULLER Abt. 1755 in
Prince William County, Virginia. She
was born Abt. 1735, and died Aft. 1805 in Prince William County, Virginia. Notes for WILLIAM COPEIN: Overwharton Parish,
formed before 1680, once covered the greater part of the original Stafford
County. The Reverend John Moncure, who served as rector from 1738 to 1764, is
buried beneath a stone bearing the inscription: 'In memory of the Race of the
House of Moncure.' The present structure replaced a church built in 1751 and
destroyed by fire three years later. This had succeeded an earlier church at
another site. Tablets commemorate the vestry that built the church, the rector,
and 'Mourning Richards, undertaker, and William Copein, mason.' By 1837 Aquia
Church was in a dilapidated condition; it was restored about 40 years later. The History of Truro
Parish in Virginia by Rev. Philip Slaughter,
D.D. Pohick Church 1773 "William Copein
having undertaken to make a Stone Font for the Church according to a draught in
the 15oth. plate in Langleys Designs being the uppermost on the left hand for
the price of six pounds he finding himself everything, the Vestry agree to pay
him that sum for finishing the same." November 22d. The
parish Levy was laid and accounts rendered. Alex. Henderson has 218 pounds,
thirteen shillings and ten pence half penny in his hands belonging to the
Parish. He is ordered to pay William Copein seven pounds, five shillings for a
stone Font and Step. George Mason and Edward Payne, Gents. appointed Church
Wardens. 1774 "George Mason

the sum of one hundred and sixteen pounds nineteen shillings and ten pence
halfpenny Curr. Money, for sundrie Alterations in the said Church and other
work done thereto not inserted in the Undertakers Articles; the said account
being sworn to by Going Lamphier, William Copein and William Bernard Sears was
examined and approved; and it is ordered that Mr. Alexander Henderson pay him
(out of the Parish's money in his hands) the sum of Fifty six pounds sixteen
shillings and six pence halfpenny, being the balance due on the said account,
after deducting the sum of twenty nine pounds three shillings and four pence
for the price of two Pews in the said Church purchased by the said George
Mason, and also thirty one pounds paid him by Capt. Daniel McCarty and Mr.
Martin Cockburn for their Pews. "Bonds being taken
yesterday from Colo. George Washington for himself, and also as Attorney in
Fact for Colo. George William Fairfax now in Brittain, from Mr. Alexander
Henderson, Mr. William Triplett, and Mr. Thomas Triplett Executor of Harrison
Manley decd. for the pur chase Money of the Pews bought by them in the new
Church near Pohick, the same Bonds were delivered to Colo. George Mason Church
Warden to be by him collected and accounted for at the next laying the Levy, he
having already received of Capt. Daniel McCarty and Mr. Martin Cockburn the
Price of their Pews purchased at the same time, which together with the Price
of his own two Pews are deducted out of his account settled and received
yesterday by the Vestry." William Bernard Sears was paid fifty eight pounds
nineteen shillings for carved work done by him in the new Church. William
Copein was paid for extra work on the same Church, arid Francis Coffer for
railing the yard and making stone steps at the upper Church, and Gowan Langfier
and Wm. Copein for their trouble and attendance in measuring the carved work on
the Altar piece and Pulpit, the former thirty, the latter ten, shillings. Papers of George
Washington Copein (Copan),
William, 9:348; 10:140 Pohick Church was
George Washington's church. That is the church that William
painted George and another fella's initial's on their pews. This is noted in
George Washington's papers and how much he paid him. Along with William

"Micale" Lynn of Prince William
County, Virginia On 6 Oct 2001 MICHAEL LYNN was added to the DAR
Patriot Index! Generation No. 1 MICHAEL
"MICALE" LYNN1 was born after 1730 and died before December
1807. It is is unknown whether he was
born in Virginia. If an immigrant, it
is probable that he was of Scots-Irish descent. He is believed to have married a woman named Levy although this
has not been proven. The earliest
reference to Michael Linn/Lynn relates to his service with the Virginia
Militia. On 6 Nov 1761 is recorded the
petition of Michael Lynn who was wounded in a skirmish with Indians and
rendered incapable of labor while serving as a member of the Prince William
County Militia in 1756. He is noted to
have been "at considerable expense in effecting a cure." On 12 Nov 1761 he is allowed £15.0.0. for
wounds received on the South Branch of the Potomac River in 1756 (see Bockstruck,
L.D., Virginia's Colonial Soldiers, pg. 174).
Assuming that Michael had to be at least 18 years of age when he served
with the militia, I estimate his birth date to have been circa 1730s. While Michael's Will (PWCo. Will Book I, pg.
360) does not mention his wife, it does give the names of his children: Mosses, Ezecal, John, Elizabeth (Arnell),
Jane (Copen), and Barbery (Burn). More About ZACHEUS COPEN and JANE LYNN: Marriage: Abt. 1790,
