SO FAR
In the over 20 years that there has been an MFA, we have nearly completed tracing the descendants of three Huguenot brothers who arrived in this country in the late 1600s with the name Magny, but who quickly began using the spelling of Many. Within three generations, various branches used spellings of Manney and Manny in addition to Many and later some used the Maney spelling.
In addition, the MFA has developed family trees for descendants of two Canadian families, Magny and Many (also later Manny), an eastern North Carolina-Tennessee family named Maney and another family which descends from a Revolutionary War veteran who was born in Ireland and settled in western North Carolina.
A Maney family originating in coastal Virginia by the early 1800s, the Manee family of Staten Island and descendants of Peter Many (1795-ca. 1830) have also been traced along with many families of Irish origin who use the Maney or Manny spelling.
