NABMW - OUR MISSION

The National Association of Black Military Women (formerly known as the Black WAAC, WAC, Women in the Service) was founded in 1976. Our mission is to record, tell and maintain the history and heritage of all Black women who served our nation with courage and valor in the military services of our country.

BRIEF HISTORY

The NABMW ( formerly known as the "Black WAAC/WAC/WIS") is an association of women throughout the country who are veterans or current members of the United States Armed forces. It was founded (under the former name of Black WAAC, WAC, Women in the Service) in Hampton, Virginia in 1976 by a group of women who had served in the Women's Army Auxiliary Corp (WAAC), Women's Army Corp (WAC), during the World War II, Korean and Vietnam Wars. At this Charter meeting it was decided to locate and invite other former service women to a First Reunion to be held in 1978 in Dallas, Texas. Eversince, Biennial reunions continued and have been held in Los Angeles California (1980), Detroit, Michigan (1982), Atlanta, Georgia (1984), Washington, DC (1986), New York City, New York (1988), Ft. McClellan (1990), Orlando, Fl (1992), San Antonio, Texas (1994), San Francisco, California (1996) and Atlanta, Georgia (1998), Chicago, Illinois (2000), Norfolk, Virginia (2002), Ft Des Moines, Iowa (2004), and Kansas City, Missouri (2004).

Our next reunion will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada at the Riviera Hotel & Casino during 28 September - 3 October 2008. So please mark your calendar for that month. We are calling for all Black Military Women (past, former, and future), family and friends to attend.
