DECENDENTS OF ISSAC HAWKINS
THE HAWKINS FAMILY SEEMS TO HAVE APPEARED FROM NOWHERE. SO PERHAPS IF I SHARE WHAT I HAVE, IT WILL HELPFUL TO OTHERS ON THE TRAIL.
The Hawkins and Burton links seem to have started in Mc Nairy Co., Tenn. John Henry Burton; was the son of John Burton, who served in the Revolution-ary War. John was the grandson of Robert Burton who immigrated to Henrico Co., Va. in the early 1630's and established Longfield Plantation.
In Mc Nairy, Co., Tenn. John Henry's daughter married Elizabeth Jane Burton. It was here that the first of their children were born.
Drury; meanwhile married Nancy Sewell, and had his first son, John Larkin Hawkins.
Drury was known as the boxing champion of McNairy County. As he was loading up the wagon for their move to Arkansas; a fellow road up, and challenged Drury to a boxing match. He wanted to be the undisputed boxing champion of Mc Nairy, Co. The fight went on for a number of hours---but Drury left Mc Nairy, Co., Tenn. as the champion still.
By 1852 the Hawkins and Burton families has settled in Arkansas; near the Missouri border. Drury's first wife had died and in 1852 he married a daughter of John Henry Burton, Mary E. Burton.
Mary and Drury started the business of raising a family and establishing theirselves in the community. Drury did the clearing of land and farming. Mary carded wool and made finished clothes, which she sold at the local stores. Sometimes she traded the clothes for whiskey.
By the time the War of Rebellion broke out, they were established in the community. They held pig roasts for all comers when the travelling minister came around. Drury joined the 15th Mo. Cavalry and served his South during the war. Mary carried on with the farmwork and all the other chores. Once she had to cross Union lines and obtain salt for the community. The Union soldiers were always coming in and out of the community of Siloam, Ark. Once they raided while the community was in church and hauled all the young men away as prisoner.
After the war they settled down in a routine manner. Drury and Mary's brother donated land for a church. Drury saw his first child buried in the churchyard. John Larkin Hawkins was the first person interred in the Siloam Cemetery. In the early 1990's the churchyard was still there. But vandalls have now destroyed the cemetery and what was left of the church.
Drury and Mary gave each child a farm of 80 acres stocked with livestock and seed as they got married.
Today the Jackson family live on the original homestead. They are the great grandchildren of Drury and Mary.

Matthew Colwell was born in kentucky and moved to Ripley Co., Mo. around the mid 1830's. There he met Jincy who was born in Mo. in 1814. Jincy is perported to have been full blooded Indian. But I never been able to figure out when they married and what her last name was. But by 1850 they had three children Samantha J., Curtis, and Mathhew J.
On March 13,1859 Samanatha married Irwin Davis. He was a registered minister in Ripley Co., Missouri. During the War of Rebellion it is said that he gave sermons to both sides. Their children were Frances,Liddy, Luvinia, Pleasant, and Solomon.
Liddie married Lemuel W. Vester and their children were: Leota, Mary, Jane Viola, William Henry, George, Walter R., Otis, Louella Frances, Minnie, and May. Thomas Alva Rieves married Louella Vester in 1903 in Randolph Co., Arkansas. They later moved to Clay Co., Ark. Their children were T.A. Rieves, William Evert Rieves, and Rodney Rieves.
Francis E. Davis married Asa M. Pringle on Jan. 9,1876. Pleasant Davis married Martha Farley Davis and moved to Cowetta, Ok
Luvinia Davis married the brother of Martha Farley Hawkins. Tilford Austin Hawkins (a blacksmith) in the town of Supply, Ark. Their children were Oscar, and Ora and Oris. They were twins. It appears that Luvinia died in childbirth of shortly afterwards. Oris also died. Ora went on to marry George James. Luvinia married Frank Johnson first and then she married Tilford.

Luvinia Lou Davis; was my Great-Grandmother and the first wife of Tilford Austin Hawkins, My Great-Grandfather. She had married Frank Johnson in Lawrence Co., Ark. first. But apparently, he died before they had any children.
