We're Lucky Dogs
Hi! We are Biscuit and Fisher, and we are two very lucky dogs because we were adopted by a nice family. Please read our stories and perhaps they will inspire you to adopt a pet that needs a home.

Hi! I'm Biscuit!
My name is Biscuit and I'm a 10-year-old Cocker Spaniel. My first few years were not happy ones. My owners were mean to me (when they even paid attention to me) and never took me to the vet. I had puppies but I don't know what ever became of them.
One day, something happened that changed my life. A kind neighbor took me to an animal rescue group where I was placed in a foster home with other dogs. A lady adopted me but then brought me back a week later because I wasn't housebroken. I would have learned had she given me a chance.
I was so afraid when people would reach into my kennel at adoption fairs that sometimes I tried to bite them. I was a "homeless" dog for quite a while and was afraid no one would ever adopt me.
Then one day I was at a PetSmart adoption fair and a lady and her mom came by and took me for a walk outside. I didn't try to bite her, which was a good decision on my part because she said she'd take me home! She put me in a shopping cart and wheeled me around and bought me a bed, food, toys and all kinds of wonderful things. I had never had toys before and really didn't know what to do with them. When I got to my new home, I got a warm bath, which I really needed, having lived outside my entire life. Also, I had lots of fleas that were driving me crazy.
I didn't really trust my new owner at first, and I kind of kept my distance, but she was really patient with me. I was kind of cranky because I had all kinds of medical problems, but a vet gave me some medicine and I was healthy in a couple of weeks.
Mom enrolled me in obedience school and I won first place and took home a blue ribbon. We were both very surprised! I was so scared on my first day of class that I tried to bite the teacher, but the teacher said that she had worked with a lot of dogs and she knew I wasn't mean -- just scared.
That was a long time ago, and I don't remember all my lessons, but I can sit and stay very well. I'm a good watch dog and bark at anyone who comes to the house.
Last year I went to a dog festival and came in second place in the "Bobbing for Tennis Balls" contest. I was up against several Labradors, but I showed them. Now I have another ribbon to add to my collection.
In March, my parents adopted a brother for me. His name is Fisher and he's nice. I'm trying to teach him how to play but so far he just looks at me like I'm crazy. I won't give up, though. I'm also teaching him how to protect the house and bark at strangers outside.
I'm so glad that I was adopted. If you want a dog, I hope you will consider adopting a homeless pet. There are a lot of dogs like me who need good homes.

Hi! I'm Fisher!
I'm Fisher, a four-year-old Golden Retriever. My parents adopted me in March 2000. My first owners kept me in the backyard and just didn't have time for me. They weren't mean to me, but I was so bored and lonely that I kept climbing over the fence in my yard. I was covered with fleas when they gave me up to the rescue group, but otherwise I was a healthy boy.
When I was taken in by Triad Golden Retriever Rescue, I lived in two foster homes. My foster families took very good care of me, but I really wanted a permanent home.
When my parents took me home, all I had to my name was a giant tennis ball. I was a little wary about sharing a home with Biscuit. She's so little and I'm not used to sharing anything. We got in a couple of fights over one particular toy, but then our parents took that toy away and Biscuit and I decided to make peace. Even though I'm three times her size, she is the boss. She likes to drink water out of my water bowl, but that's okay with me. Recently, Biscuit and I went to the vet together, and when the doctor took Biscuit out of the room to be weighed, I got really worried about her and paced around till she came back. I guess she's really growing on me!
I am a tennis ball fanatic. I like squeaky toys, too, but I usually wind up tearing them up into little pieces. I'm happiest with a good ol' tennis ball. I have two huge tennis balls that Biscuit can't fit in her mouth, so I don't even have to share!
I just graduated from obedience school. My parents hope I can get my Canine Good Citizen certification later this year.
There are a lot of Golden Retrievers who need good homes. Below is a link to Golden Retrievers in Cyberspace. It's a great organization for finding homeless Goldens good homes all over the U.S.
Please don't buy a dog at a pet shop. I know they have cute puppies in their windows, but these puppies come from puppy mills, where dogs live in filthy, unhealthy and abusive conditions. Instead, please adopt a homeless dog -- you won't regret it!
