My Texas Whiptale Page
Habitat: This lizard can be seen in a variety of habitats ranging from rocky slopes near floodplains to prairies to canyons. It is almost always near a waterscourse.

Behavior: This day lizard actively forages for termites, caterpillars, and large insects in sand and debris. It will run if threatened, but generally it is not as wary as other whiptails.

Males: with red throat, blue belly, and black or blue coloration on chest.

Females: with pink throat and white, unmarked belly.

Comparatively long tail, about 3 times the head-body length
Belly with 8 rows of large, rectangular scales
Feeding: The best food for whiptales are just chrickets. You can feed them meal worms. You and buy calicum powder just sprinkle it on the chrickets and put three or four in at a time.
I recomend using a twenty-thirty gallon tank to house your whiptale. I keep mine in a twenty gallon. For the size of the lizard this may seem big, but when afriad they tend to run this can cuase injuarys. Anyways its nice to have a little place to walk around.
CareSheets
Whiptales are easy to take care of if you know what your doing...
-a large cage= they need room to grow.
-ceder, or pine shavings=about an inch from the bottem of tank.
-a heat rock or lamp=I rather use heat rocks because you can leave them on all the time.
-crickets=go to your pet store and ask for pin head crickets put in four or five at a time.
-water=any glass, plastic, rock or whatever will do just make sure theres water in it.

Make sure the tank is set up and there is food befor you put your whiptale in. Whiptales like to burrow and hide in and under rocks and such. I recomend buying a bark tunnel at a pet store, but you can use paper towel roles or hamster toobs. Make sure there is enough room inside. Dark colors work best.
