Who is funding this project?
A grant from the Anne E. Casey Foundation to Caliber & Associates in Washington, DC to replicate the military training in Registered Family Homes in the "Making Connections Neighborhood".
What is the goal of this project?
The primary goal of the project is to improve the quality of care for children and to increase the professionalism of home childcare settings through completion of self-paced modules and mentoring provided at your home each month.
Who is Caliber & Associates?
Caliber & Associates is a consulting firm based in Fairfax, Virginia with over 20 years experience in providing training and technical assistance to child and family programs.
How long will it take?
Eighteen (18) months to complete the 13 self-paced modules. These components are part of the Family Childcare Training model based on that used successfully in the military for over 10 years.
What's involved in each module?
Pre-training assessment to provide a basis for determining what you do regularly,
sometimes or not enough.
Four to six learning activities.
A written knowledge assessment at the end of each module.
An average of 13 clock hours of reading and learning activities at your own pace.
Each module should take an average of four to six weeks to complete.
What's in it for me?
FREE training and technical assistance. A mentor who will come to you once a month and work with you.
Up to $ 200 worth of materials & equipment after completion of the orientation and at the end of the first 6 and 12 month period. That's a total of $ 600. for your program.
A fully paid scholarship for your CDA at the end of the 18 months upon successful completion of all 13 modules.
Upon completion of the 13 modules, we pay for the CDA Assessment Test.
How do I qualify?
Must not have your CDA, Associates or Bachelor's degree in Child Development or Early Childhood Education.
Allow the Childcare mentor to work with you in your home.
Participate in data collection efforts to document the outcome of the grant.
Attend training programs offered throughout the grant.

If I am selected, who will mentor me?
Your mentor will be Jackie Taylor, an independent trainer and consultant. Jackie now lives in Austin Texas and provides mentoring to center-based and home based providers. Jackie has 7 years experience working in the Army Child Development Services as a Family Child care Director and Child Care Coordinator. She will provide you with training and mentoring in your home, through email and phone conferences atyour convenience.
