Mystery of the Mesa: A Science Detective Story How can a few spear points and other faint traces of the
past tell the story of a people who lived nearly 12,000 years ago? A recent
discovery on the remote northern slopes of Alaska shows how scientists, working much like
detectives at the scene of a crime, study such scant clues to piece together the tale of
America's first settlers. It also highlights the essential role of scientists in
writing the earliest chapters of America's history.

In Search of the Giant Squid
The giant squid lives in most of the world's oceans and is among the biggest animals in
the sea . . . BUT . . . it is rarely seen. It hunts smaller sea creatures . . . BUT . . .
larger animals feed on it. It has inspired fantastic tales . . . BUT . . . the facts
are even more fascinating than the fiction.

Create a Food Web
This is a COOL site! An interactive worksheet. You know that a
food web is made up of two or more interconnected food chains, and that it shows the
food relationships among organisms in a community. Let's see you create a food web.
Click and drag the animals, plants, and arrows to form a possible food web.
Arrows should be drawn from food source to food consumers. At the end of this
activity, you can discard excess pictures into the Recycle Bin and then right-click to
print your food web. If you move your mouse pointer on the picture the name will
pop-up. Bring in your food web for me to see for extra credit!
