Part 1
--Priss' song "A Dance in the Stars"
Call it cheesy all you want, I thought it was cool at the time I wrote it ;) Do I have more lyrics beyond what's written in this scene? Well...no.
-- I took my sandwich into the living room with me and turned on the TV, and after flipping through the channels, settled on a lousy talk show. It’s all staged, but it’s mindless entertainment anyhoo, I thought as two squabbling lovers yelled at each other.
What other show would I be referring to here other than Jerry Springer? It has set the stage for many horrible shows to come, I'm sure.
--Yumeko speaking Spanish with Sara
As much as I wish my high school had offered Japanese, it didn't, so I took Spanish (taught myself Japanese, haha ^_^). Remembered enough of it to be able to do their dialogue. However, since I know not everyone knows Spanish (duh), I'll offer the translations of their dialogue here. And since Sara's a Spanish student anyway, does it really matter if some of the Spanish might be off? ^_^
--“¿Cómo fue tu viaje, muchacha?”
Lit. "How was your trip, girl?"
--“Bien. Soy cansada, pero está bien. No se importa.”
Lit. "Ok. I'm tired, but it's alright. Doesn't matter."
--“Espero que te gustas este lugar. Es divertido si sabes a dónde ir.”
Lit. "I hope that you like this place. It's fun if you know where to go."
--“Supongo que sí.”
Lit. "I suppose so."
--“Rocío, espero que estás lista,” Sara suddenly said to me.
Lit. "Rocío, I hope you're ready."
--“Estoy lista,” I replied.
Lit. "I'm ready."
--“This is my third year in the class. ¡Es divertida!”
Lit. "It's fun!"
--The book "Tess of the d'Urbervilles"
This was a book I had to read in my composition class my senior year of high school. I was just as confused as Yumeko and Xania were upon reading it. And I'll admit, I didn't finish it.
--“My mom said I sound more like a first alto, but she also said I could be a second soprano if need be.”
I was in choir my junior and senior years of high school. The girls were divided up into first and second soprano, and first and second alto. Second soprano is a lower-pitched soprano, while a first alto is a higher-pitched alto. (For the record: I was a second soprano ^_^)
--"Well, I know that most Mexicans are Roman Catholic. Catholic churches are all decked out in all their finery, but Baptist churches keep it simple. I hope you’ll be able to adjust to it."
When I was younger I attended a Baptist church: nice and simple. First time I ever went to a Catholic church, YIKES! Freaked me out! At least Baptist churches don't try to suck up to God by dressing the place up =P
--"Tyler, can you make a stop by Baskin Robbins?" she asked, turning to Tyler, who was putting the leftovers back in the cooler.
Whether you call it Baskin Robbins or 31 Flavors, still has some of the best ice cream around ^_^ Don't see too many around anymore though.
--Yumeko's tai chi lessons with Kenneth
For her first lesson here in part 1, I had to go do some research on tai chi. After this, however, I started taking a tai chi class as my P.E. requirement for community college, partly for research, and partly for fun. Oh, and my legs really DID hurt after the first lesson.
