KNIGHTS OF AFRICA, THE SOVEREIGN ORDER OF SAINT JOHN

H.S.H. PRINCE ABUKUSE V.E.P.MBIRIKA, Sovereign Grandmaster

We would like to believe you are already familiar with our organization. But,if for one reason or another you are not, allow us the opportunity of introducing ourselves to you. It certainly will be worth your while. As the title tells you, we are an organization composed of knights and dames. How we came to be what we are and adopt what we stand for, is the subject of this brief discussion. And now pay attention, we won't be too long.

On June 24, 1993, in the Holy City of Jerusalem, an event of biblical proportion occured to Grandmaster, His Serene Highness, Prince Abukuse V.E.P. Mbirika. As he stood in the great Dome of the Rock, gazing at the beautiful gold-gilted ceiling, he soon realized he was standing at the same spot where about 3000 years ago, King Solomon built a magnificent temple for the glory of God. In that temple, he placed the Ark of the Covenant into which were the Ten Commandments given to Moses by God to help us find the will of God to us.(See the Old Testament, 2 Chronicles Chapter 5 verses 2 to 10). Grandmaster was led by divine guidance to establish a humanitarian Order whose foundation would be the Ark of the Covenant, an Order which would address itself to numerous problems facing the continent of Africa. On that day and at that spot, he founded the Knights of Africa, The Sovereign Order of the Hospitallers of Saint John of Jerusalem, referred to in abbreviated form as "Knights of Africa" or "Knights of Africa Universal Sovereignty." It is universal because it belongs to everyone who practices principles of uprightness and wants to maintain the practice. It is a "Sovereignty" in accordance to principles established in antiquity guiding the conduct of vested inherent rights and which principles have of recent been confirmed by learned jurists of International Law.

Like the ancient Order of Knights of Malta, into which Prince Abukuse, known to his friends also as Sir Vincent, was inducted as the first African Knight Grand Cross of Justice in 1976, Knights of Africa is a not-for-profit philanthropic sovereign order that received first recognition from the government of the United States of America through the President himself, His Excellency, William Jefferson Clinton. The President's sentiments were conveyed through two official letters from the White House, addressed to the Grandmaster, one on August 22, 1994 and the other one on October 4, 1994. Thereafter, the organization has been registered and recognized by charters from both the States of New York and Delaware as operating for charitable purposes. By letter from the U.S. Department of Treasury, the organization has been granted tax-exempt status under the Internal Revenue Service Ruling 501C3 effective April 21, 1999.

In essence, Knights of Africa is an organization dedicated to helping the continent of Africa arise again and recapture its past glory as the continent enters its period of renaissance in the 21st century, recently dubbed by the United Nations as "African Century."

The organization does so by attracting to its membership upright people who have risen or must choose to rise and remain above petty things like, greed, jealousy, nepotism, lay investiture, parasitic thievery, incompetence, non-transparency and non- accountability in public affairs. These petty things are diseases that have for so long infected the mind of some of our leaders and their misled followers. These invisible evils have from time to time robbed Africa of its glory and positive energy. In reality, some of our misguided people are held hostage by this negative energy and through its hold on them, tend to act as though they were really non-caring rotten individuals who, along with their equally rotten foreign boon companions, have the nerves to claim Africa owes them a favor. They rob Africa in the day light under the guise of an appearance of introducing somethin
