Fiberglass Saddlebags
These saddlebags, designed by Vern Clements, are the only real option available for the 800 Drifter that are chassis mounted. Other saddlebags are mounted directly to the moving ABS rear fender. They may work to store your riding apparel while the Drifter is parked but, if loaded and ridden, fatigue cracks would soon be the result. For an operational alternative these bags come as a set with luggage rack included for the Drifter. The luggage rack can be used by itself or in conjunction with the saddlebags. The brackets come pre-coated in black to match the rest of the chassis. Mounting instructions are included. The bags themselves are of fiberglass cloth, not matt, for strength and durability. Additionally, the bags are rubber isolated to avoid fatigue, and supported from underneath as well as to the inside.

Another option for these saddlebags, is an installation on a Harley-Davidson Softail. This is Vern's personal ride, and it's a knock-out! Note the Indian front fender, Vern's an aviation enthusiast and couldn't resist the streamlined look.

The mounting system for a Softail is completely different from the Drifter. The Softail has a stationary rear fender so a luggage rack isn't a requirement, although it wouldn't be difficult to design one if I'm requested to do so.

Other issues when considering this system for the Drifter.
The turn indicator lights are relocated to the luggage rack. With a live rear fender they can't stay in the original location. They would hit the saddlebags on actuation. This means the rear lower fender support must be modified, [the tail light mounts have to be cut off and the tube plugged and repainted]. Yes, if you send it to me I will do the modification for you. The charge will be$75.00 Also the seat surround at the back of the saddle has to be modified to work with the luggage rack, again I will do the modifications and repaint it for $75.00 the wiring harness to the relocated tail lights is included in the complete kit as well as the luggage rack kit. Plastic plugs are also a part of the kit to plug the holes from the tail light removal. This would negate the $75.00 charge to weld the tube and reshape as seen in the pictures. The rear seat surround doesn't have to be reinstalled, again this would negate the $75.00 charge for that modification.
