Andrew Douris is the creator and producer of the EgoSchmego! improv comedy shows. Andrew trained at Big City Improv under Paul Anthony, Executive Producer of Star Trek Live on Stage starring the Chumps. After performing at Big City, Andrew went on to guest with The Imps, where he continued honing his improv skills at various venues around Toronto. In 1996, Andrew wrote, produced and played a main role in the Fringe of Toronto Festival sketch show, It Happened in Hogtown. In the fall of 1996, a successful run of shows was started under the name Planet Mirth. The shows were very well received and Planet Mirth was the highly recommended act for the week of November 7, 1997 in Now Magazine. The group was also featured in Fast Forward magazine in May 1998. In August of 1998, Planet Mirth made a few changes and the name was changed to Ego Schmego! Ego Schmego! was featured on City Magazine, a local news and information television show, in March 1999. As well as the improv shows, Andrew has been performing stand-up comedy and has hosted some charity events, including the Port Credit Tree Festival. In the fall of 1999, Andrew will be teaching improv with the district school board's continuing education program. The improv shows include different guests from the Toronto comedy community and are usually held in an intimate setting such as a coffee house. An average audience number is usually between 35-60 people. Recent guests have included, former Second City mainstager Jack Mosshammer, Wendii Fulford from the tv series Misguided Angels , Paula Kaye from the PBS series Ricky's Room ,stand-up comedian Joanna Downey and David Boyce, star of several Canadian and American commercials and of the upcoming independent film The Amazing Alexander.
