I have run across so many, many wonderful people on the net...among them, so many people who have real, serious problems... or have had them and worked through them... it helps me get MY stuff in perspective when I realize how much more others have suffered... and it helps me keep up my courage and keep on truckin'...
So I made a kind of an un-fancy little award... The Diamond Shoes Award...and I'm gonna go around handing it out every time I see someone who answers to that description.
I really made this award in honor of two people I admire very much... Christine and Shirley... these are people who take and are taking the hits... and who keep getting up and fighting on... day after day... my eyes fill with tears when I think of how much they have endured... and how much they keep giving to everyone around them in spite of it all.
There are many more... and I personally know quite a few of them... so if you'll excuse me now, I'm gonna put on my Diamond Shoes and zip around on the net for a while... letting some of them know just how brave and terrific I think they are... and how proud I am to be their friend.

This beautiful poem is from The Faithful Gardener, a wonderful book by Clarissa Pinkola Estés. She also wrote Women Who Run With The Wolves and many other books, poems, articles, etc. Ms. Estés is an award-winning poet, senior Jungian psychoanalyst, and a cantadora (keeper of the old stories) in the Hispanic tradition. Dr. Estés also heads the C. P. Estés Guadalupe Foundation, a human rights organization that broadcasts throughout the world. You can find her books at Amazon Books
