Casa Arriba
Casa Arriba   Yelapa, Mexico
            contact: lancegries@aol.com
Casa Arriba sits overlooking Yelapa Bay at the southernmost tip of the Bay of Banderas on Mexico's Pacific coast.  With no cars and only accessible by a forty minute boat ride form the lively tourist destination of Puerto Vallarta, this tranquil fishiing village has retained its natural beauty and local charm.

Casa Arriba's location (literally "the house above") ensures great views, sunsets, breezes, birds, butterflies and privacy.  It is a short walk down to the beach or into the traditional village of Yelapa.
The View
Constructed some forty years ago in the traditional palapa style (thatched palm roof), Casa Arriba has been renovated after years of being uninhabited.  The original design is built on multiple spiraling terraces and staircases linking shared living spaces, patios, gardens, sleeping areas and a seperate bathhouse, or bano.  Features include original tile flooring and massive stone walls throughout and a lot of openness to take advantage of the natural setting and views.
The sala and its terrace overlooking the Bay of Yelapa.
Main Entrance
A central oval living area, or sala, centers the ground floor of the house.  One end leads into the kitchen area and up to the second level - which functions as a large bedroom, as well as an art or dance studio.
The kitchen area has large windows looking out to the bay.  It is fully equipped with a four burner stove/oven, refridgerator, cooking and eating utensils, water purifier and ample storage space - including a locked pantry.  All living areas of the house are wired for electricity and have dimmable lighting.  There is a telephone line and the capability of a computer hookup.
At the opposite end of the sala is a guest house, with its own bathroom and hot water shower.  There is a queen size bed downstairs and a double hanging bed on the second level.  Along with the main loft/bedroom and a single garden room, Casa Arriba can comfortably sleep 6-7 people in seperate quarters, with two full baths.  Further plans will create the possibility of hosting larger groups.
Two of the Bedrooms
A special feature of Casa Arriba is a seperate bano (bathhouse) located above the main house with a dipping pool, an open  air hot shower, toilet and original tiled twin sinks.  It is very private with an oval terrace and another great view - the perfect place to paint, meditate, write or just lie in the hammock at the end of the day.
There is much more to know about Yelapa itself. Try an internet search or these links:

There is a full schedule of retreats taking place in Yelapa, and soon, Casa Arriba: yoga, art, women's groups, recovery groups, nursing and more.  Combined with Yelapa's artsy  and liberal residents, you can be assured great company at the beach, at any of the fine restaurants or at the disco.
Casa Arriba is not currently available for rental.   However, I am looking for reliable, handy, adventerous housesitters or artists to be in residence in exchange for maintenance, garden care and small projects during the off season from mid-May through eary November.

I look forward to hearing from you with any inquiries, comments or questions.

Hasta Luego,
