EXPERIENCE
Kierkegaard sees Christianity as having Paradoxes that require a person to
change in order to enter into the experience of God. To receive a truth is to be changed by it.
Such experiences can be the gateway into one of Pascal's
three orders.
THE INCARNATION
We can never understand the incarnation in general and the concept of Jesus' dual natures without entering the world of selves. Kierkegaard illustrates
it with:
The story of the Prince and the Poor Servant Girl
A royal prince falls deeply in love with a poor servant girl. He
desires to have a true relationship with her. If he tries to raise her up
(with fine dresses, lessons in manners, etc.) that implies that she is not
acceptable as she is, but he loves her just as she is. If he pretends to
be a beggar, his relationship with her is built on false hood. The only
solution is to give up his throne and actually become a beggar.
In the same way Jesus puts aside is holy throne to become flesh and dwell
among us.
