Extreme Views - Do They Bring Balance?
The Religious Right v. Gay/Lesbian/Transgender/Transexual Liberals
The Religious Right - Ever hear of the “Religious Right?" Usually we tend to think of these people as those who are very opinionated about God and who tend to "think" they know what's best for everyone else when it comes to "God." I myself tend to think "Judgment" is reserved for God and not by our PEERS, but I know we are only human... I have read "For God's will is this: he wants you to silence the ignorant talk of foolish men by the good things you do. (1 Peter 2:15)...
Are they the only chosen ones? Unfortunately, many use God's "word" as a weapon and are actually hurting people rather than bringing them towards a greater understand of God. I myself believe that those who express extreme religious right views do have the right "intention" of trying to carry out moral values as far as God is concerned. However, many act overzealous (probably without meaning to or even realizing it) and they tend trod upon the rest of God's children in the name of righteousness. I really believe the extremists haven't formed their true relationship with God and do not understand that God did not create one type of person or culture to be better than another! (What limited thinking this would be).
So while extremists may not agree with how people live their lives, it doesn't make them better than the other. God is as much with the extremists as He is with the sinner. Some cast stones in the name of God, when really - they haven't been listening to God at all. Have they not heard Matthew say: "You put loads on men's backs which are hard to carry, but you yourself will not stretch out a finger to help them carry those loads" (Matt 5:16). If you are a servant to God, you will serve only Him. If you find yourself casting stones, even without meaning to, you might ask yourself your motive. Are you really serving God and all His creation. By turning others away, saying they are no part of God, are you really doing His will? Are you turning someone away from thoughts of God or bringing them towards the Goodness of God and all His healing and loving power?
Militant Gays/Lesbians/Transgender/Transexuals/Liberals - On the other end of the spectrum we have the "militant" gays and lesbians. They can be just as bad as the extreme religious right. The majority of the time, they may seem even more offensive because they "appear" not to believe in God (although many probably do). However, from my past experience and what I see many seem to express themselves in a negative light using not the word of God as weapons, but the name of "love" and their human right to be themselves. What many do not realize is that they can just be themselves, AND they can do it without forcing their lifestyles onto others if they are not ready to accept it. We all have to sacrifice to get to the place where we long to really be in life. This doesn't make you wrong, you just have to be patient and understanding of someone else's fear. If you love your partner, that is yours, and that is your gift from above, why push it on those who do not understand.
Forcing others into a view they cannot understand right away is not being considerate. Stand in their shoes too. Sure gays and lesbians have feelings to and want to be seen and heard. That is fine, but let them seek to know you by your good deeds. Prancing around almost naked and viciously advocating your views are Not going to bring you respect. Parade for pride, not for your own selfish Idiosyncracies. People respect you as you respect yourself. Most of it is a defense mechanism stemming from repression and hurt at not being accepted. Many forget that God loves them As Is. You are Accepted by God if you turn to Him. Show others who you are by doing for your neighbor and helping humanity. Only then can you be heard. Have you not heard: "For there are different reasons why men cannot marry: some because they were born that way; and others because men made them that way; and others do not marry because of the Kingdom of heaven. Let him who can do it accept this teaching" (Matt 9:12)(Luke 20:34).
